We visited the restaurant yesterday afternoon with a warm welcome from the staff. We ordered a softshell crab salad and chilli chicken for our starters. The softshell crab salad is fantastic; the chicken is tender and very well seasoned.
The chef came out and asked if we liked the chicken. Be prepared to express your excitement!
We then had our bento boxes, chicken and salmon. I like the fact it comes with three slices of fresh salmon and four sushi rolls, making it a very inviting dish to attack.
However, the only improvement can be made is the chicken and the portion of salon in the box. I think the chicken is not very fresh as it had been fried over and over again. It is very dried. I have tried chicken bento boxes elsewhere, chicken itself is always fresh and tender even after frying. Saying said that, it might be that different chefs have a different way to do the chicken teriyaki bento.
The portion of the salmon is very small.
Bento boxes are £17.90 each, but you can book through the Fork to take advantage of the 30% off on the A La Carte menu.
Overall, it is a very enjoyable experience. We highly...
Read moreIt was in our favourite list, but tonight it lost by far the top list. The service was under average, probably she was new but was hard to understand each other on simple things. Miso soup was slightly bland and the spring onion was very peppery (didn't wash under water). The tempura was really bad, extremely chunky like a donuts, at the point that we took the batter away in big pieces and showed to the waitress. It also absorbed all the flavour from the sauce and the prawns, yet they charged us for that. Dumplings were good. Maki-sushi, crab stick and eel with the eel sauce, why did you do that? The eel covered completely every other flavour, it was only one flavour and it was fishy, sticky, sweet. The salmon roll had the eel glaze as well, covering again all the flavour. Soft shell crab roll, almost good in flavour if not for the mayo (everywhere on each sushi, do you need mayo and grease for everything?). It was also looking bad with so much mayo covering completely the crab. Overall a good 4, ruined by small mistakes. Far from real Japanese...
Read moreElements is a great little sushi house in Streatham Hill, it has a well-priced selection of choices, and I tried the elements sashimi, elements sushi and elements tempura selections - the tempura was a selection of vegetables and fish - was hot and filling; the sushi was beautifully presented and very tasty - I loved the tuna - and the sashimi was fresh and light - the white fish especially a burst of sea flavour - all in all a perfect amount of food for a couple of people. Balanced with an asai beer and it was a perfect concoction. The staff were friendly, and quick to support, but a little quick to take the end of your drinks! The tempura would have benefitted from more seasoning or (probably because I am more familiar with Thai food) a spicy/sweet dipping sauce over...
