We were fortunate to dine at Folde on just their second night of service, and this new vegetarian restaurant is already delivering exceptional food with impressive confidence.
The Old Winchester Cheese Balls with Five Spice Honey were so irresistible that one vanished before I could photograph them – the aged cheese's sharpness paired beautifully with warming spices and sweet honey.
The House Focaccia elevated comfort food with butter bean, preserved lemon, and oregano oil, while the Burrata with Charred Broccoli and Fermented Chilli and the Smashed Jersey Royals Peas, and Tartar sauce showcased the kitchen's skill in balancing dishes with creamy textures with chilli heat.
Service was remarkably polished for such a new venture – friendly, attentive staff who clearly care about what they're doing.
The creativity and execution here suggest Folde will quickly become a local favorite.

Read moreHad the pleasure of experiencing Folde as it just opened. Firstly the staff are SO lovely & welcoming. We started with cocktails, which there is a lovely selection of, there was a really lovely wine list, which I can’t wait to explore the next time round. Food was delicious, portion sizes are plentiful, we ordered 5 plates between the two of us and it was very filling, hence why I can’t wait to go back and try the rest, as my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. I’m not one to miss out on the dessert, and Jeeez-Louise, the cheesecake made me feel all sorts… & I’m not a cheesecake fan. Their coffee was great too. I love that it’s dog friendly, I don’t have a dog, but sometimes, dogs are better than humans, so I was happy to see they’re welcome. Looking forward to...

After, we had asparagus, some very deeply fried katsu-style aubergine and cheese balls presumably intended to be a soufflé, but which had rather unfortunately picked up some extra chromosomes on the way. Finished with, in my case, an instant decaf coffee - it’s easy to tell…
For a plant-based restaurant I thought it bizarre that all the tables were plastic faux-wood. My companion described it as like a national trust café...
