We booked a table for five for Sunday lunch at Mr Bao and were greeted by very friendly staff, which set a great tone. It was a warm day though, and the ventilation inside wasn’t great. The AC didn’t seem to be working properly, so it got really hot and quite uncomfortable during our meal. We ordered a mix of small plates to share: Handmade Dumplings (£7.30), Spring Onion Pancake with Salted Egg (£6.20), and Fried Chicken with Smoky Miso Mayo (£7.30). The fried chicken was the standout, super crispy and paired perfectly with the smoky mayo. Dumplings were decent, though the sauce was a bit overpowering. The pancakes were a bit disappointing; we could barely taste the salted egg, and it might help if that flavour came through in the dipping sauce too. For baos, I really enjoyed the Beef Brisket Bao (£5.60). The meat was soft and packed with flavour. A friend found it a bit salty, but I liked that as it balanced nicely with the plain bao. The Drunken Prawn Bao (£5.50), however, was a bit of a letdown. While it had two solid pieces of prawn, the flavours were mild and slightly confusing. With a name like “drunken prawn,” we expected more punch from something like Huadiao or Shaoxing wine, which didn’t really come through. All in all, tasty food at a good price. I’d definitely come back, just hopefully on a cooler day when the space is more comfortable to sit in.

Came here for lunch last weekend and had a lovely time. They recommend 1-2 small dishes and 1-2 bao’s per person. Between two of us, we ended up having 8 boas, 2 small dishes, and a dessert. This was definitely more food than we needed but it was fun to try a lot of the menu. We were quite hungry though, so I would say we needed 3 bao’s per person. Service is pretty quick though, so I would recommend ordering cautiously and getting more as you eat if you’re still hungry. For the starters, we had the corn ribs and the pancakes. Both were great and the sauces were really tasty, we ended up hanging onto those to dip the boa buns, would recommend doing the same! For the bao’s we had prawn, chicken, brisket, and crab. All of them were super tasty, but the crab was my favourite, with the chicken a close second. I ordered the tahini cookie sandwich for dessert. It was an unexpected highlight, the cookie was perfectly baked and had lots of big chocolate chunks, and the ganache complemented it well without being too sweet. The above, plus two drinks came to about £90 for two of us, including tip. This was a bit on the pricier side, but I’m sure you can do it cheaper, with fewer bao’s and without drinks/dessert.

First time there and would definitely come back to try more of their dishes. Ordered the shiitake bao and drunken prawn bao and the vegan kimchi pancake & sweet corn salsa, mapo beans & hash browns, smacked cucumber and the sticky BBQ corn ribs. I was disappointed with the prawn bao as there wasn't enough filling inside to balance the prawns, and the prawns were bland. The hashbrown in the mapo beans dish didn't add much to the dish itself and became soggy after a short while. The seasoning in that dish lacked something. The kimchi pancakes were ok but lacked the spiciness and particular flavour of the kimchi. I'd say this was more cabbage pancakes. The shiitake bao was however really tasty and I wish I had ordered two. The smacked cucumber, a very simple dish, was really refreshing and really spot-on in terms of flavour. I also appreciated the corn although perhaps a bit hard to eat if you're feeling lazy. We had a good loose-leaf oolong tea served in this nice tea pot. Service was very good and everyone was friendly. At the time we went, the restaurant wasn't too busy and the atmosphere was on the quieter side which is much appreciated on a Sunday.
