We had gotten to the Gordon Ramsay street burger restaurant inside the O2, which was surprisingly very quiet. But nevertheless, we had a table reservation for 3 on a Saturday afternoon which wasn't needed as we were seated straight away. However, I would recommend booking just in case as the restaurant soon filled up.
The table was clean and prepared with the menus, coca-cola glasses and a recycled large tin with forks, knifes and fabric serviettes.
The menu was filled with choices! Several different styles of burgers ranging from spicy to meat-packed to vegan.
The sides included items such as mac & cheese, street salad and a shared plate of onion rings etc.
For £16 you can get a burger, fries and a refill for a soft drink. This can be either diet coke, coca-cola, sprite or fanta that you refill yourself at a machine located at the bar. You may, if you wish to upgrade, can have an extra dish of sweet potato fries, wagyu up, cheese skirt or to double up on your burger.
Alternatively, you can pay for a single glass of beer, cocktail, wine, milkshake or tea/coffee.
We ordered the J.F.C, #Bae and O.G.R Burgers, which came roughly 15 minutes after ordering!
The burger and fries came well presented on a metal rectangular plate with a thin paper layer with the name of the restaurant and a small sticker with the name of the burger. With the addition of 2 small dips of tomato ketchup and mayonnaise.
The burgers were built tall with juices full of flavour and seasoning overflowing and dripping down the sides.
The fries came in a small paper bag, half spilling onto the plate. They were hot, crunchy and well seasoned.
Although the main dish was filling on its own, we insisted on having dessert. This is where we were met with little choice between a sticky toffee pudding, a banana split or one of their 2 flavoured milkshakes.
We ordered 3 banana splits that came in an oval clear glass bowl.
The banana split was evenly cut down the centre with smarties, whipped cream, caramel ice-cream, 2 glacier cherries on the ends and a wafer in the middle. Topped with a drizzle of caramel sauce over the whole dessert.
We were ready to pay and asked the server for the bill, which came to a total of £74.18. Which split down is £64.50 for the meal and a £9.68 (15%) service charge.
Server: Paola, who was very sweet and welcoming and who definitely deserves the 15% service charge.
Layout: The overall look of the restaurant was a very urban street-style aesthetic with graffiti on the walls and traffic lights hanging from the ceiling above the kitchen/bar. The ceiling had no tiles showing the exposed ventilation and pipes.
Along the rough concrete walls were yellow sofa booths on one side and the kitchen/bar on the other, with tables and chairs filling the centre.
Toilets: Men's and women's are located upstairs with disabled toilets located on the...
Read moreI'd seen a fair bit of hype surrounding Gordon Ramsay's new burger restaurant venture opening up and was looking forward to making a visit with a friend to see if the product lived up to the hype.
I went for the J.F.C burger, J.F.C Dirty Fries (£4.50 extra) and a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini. This came to a total of £30 (excluding discretionary 15% service charge).
To be perfectly honest - and there's no other way I can put it - I was very much underwhelmed. Quite simply what I had for £30 was frankly not worth the money - so much so we asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill - which is something we don't normally do. My friend's order also came out incorrect as they had asked to double up and for the lettuce to be removed.
Whilst my burger tasted ok, there was no crunch from the fried chicken and the hash brown was extremely oily and disintegrated with half of it falling out when I picked up the burger. Overall the taste was more greasey/oily than anything else.
The Dirty Fries (£4.50 surcharge and normally £7) were also much smaller than expected (I was expecting a serving akin to a Meat Liquor Dead Hippie fries portion for the price) and were also generally underwhelming for the price paid though I did like the idea of adding chicken in then. I'm not even going to go into detail on my thoughts of the Espresso Martini, but to charge £9.50 for a cocktail a third of the size of what you'd normally get anywhere else (and could be finished in 3 sips) is quite frankly shocking!
Overall I thought this was massively overpriced, (I calculated I'd probably be willing to pay about £18 for my meal - 40% less than what was charged!) and it seems this may come down to effectively paying for the name attached to...
Read moreI had high expectations for this street burger meal. My husband wanted a vegan burger, but none was on the menu. He asked the server and was told they did have a vegan burger. So he ordered that with sweet potato fries. I ordered dirty fries with chicken and coleslaw. It took about 20 minutes for the small burger and about 25 minutes for the dirty fries. The restaurant was about 30% filled. My husband burger arrived, and the sweet potato fries were overdone, but the flavour was there. He was not particularly keen on the burger and started to question what it was made with. To his horror, it was a mushroom burger and was displeased he was not told about the content of the burger as he never eats mushrooms. My dirty fries arrived with coleslaw, and I enjoyed the fries, but the coleslaw was rather dry and definitely needed a better & more dressing to be tasty. The meal overall was scraped by an OK for a basic burger bar but failed for a Gordon Ramsey endeavour. I watch everything he does and was so excited to eat food prepared to a high standard, but I was so disappointed with the burger situation, but... did like the dirty fries. It was not value for money.... maybe I will try Slug and Lettuce or Five Guys next time I am in O2. The server was pleasant and tried hard, but it was obvious he was inexperienced as I had to ask home to bring a glass with ice and lemon for my sparkling water. I had to ask him to bring the food that sat for some time. I also had to clarify the order as his English was not very good. He was a very pleasant young man who did the best he could. When I received the bill, I was not happy I was not told about the donation or the optional service charge. Which added £7.52...
