Great Sunday Lunch. We tried the roast beef, roast pork belly and fish and chips. The beef and fish and chips were both very good, the pork belly was tender with crispy crackling and served with plenty of vegetables and a large Yorkshire Pudding, portions are definitely generous. My only comment was perhaps there was too much gravy already on the plate, but it did not detract from the overall quality of the food. The pub is really busy and clearly very popular with local families so booking is essential. During our time there, tables were constantly being turned to accommodate more customers. Staff were friendly and informative about drinks selections and food was served promptly given who busy the pub was. Loved the buzzy atmostphere and decor, it really did this wonderful building proud. They also have a garden and outside seating in front of the pub (with a small marquee) neither of which we tried as it was very cold. A great visit, and good pub for families in the area but don’t forget to book in advance.

What a disappointment - I can’t understand the 5 star reviews. The roast was terrible, lacking on basic seasoning (salt and pepper), gravy lacking finesse, and the lamb was the weirdest texture and didn’t taste of lamb at all! Potatoes were bland too. The only thing that was cooked okay was the pork belly. Then the dessert. A scandal. An absolute scandal. I ordered the berry crumble and it was simple inedible, ridiculously sweet, and I was given about 3 tablespoons of custard to go with it. I asked for more custard, was given another 3 tablespoon worth. The chocolate soufflĂ© was just a flat flourless cake with half a scoop of icecream plonked on top, no air, no finesse, just a stodgy bit of chocolate. My mother in law ordered icecream and it was half a scoop in a little ramekin. Tasted cheap and ridiculously sweet. Worst of all, we were sat right by the male toilet and it’s a single toilet with a single door, so no corridor or second door separating the dining area and the toilet. Very off putting.

Second time here for a Sunday roast. We don’t bother with starters because the main is huge! We had 2 21day aged rumps and 2 slow roast pork belly with sides of cauli cheese and creamed leeks and extra broccoli- which we didn’t need! Absolutely one of the best pub roasts I’ve ever had . Highly recommend. The pub is dog friendly and family friendly. Lovely staff and great food. We had a crumble and 2 chocolate fondants with ice cream for pudding. Totally stuffed!!

I was really looking forward to going to The Great Exhibition on Sunday 8th February as you had been highly recommended to me by a couple of friends. Walked in atmosphere was lovely really good vibe going on we wasnt in a rush and was told we had to go onto a board and there would be a half hour wait. That wasnt a problem as we were not in a rush and were happy to have a drink at the bar and listen to the lovely jazz band. After an hour and 15 minutes I asked the lady who was rushed off her feet where we were on the list and was told that my name had been rubbed out. She apologised and said that we could sit a reserved table but would have be off by 4.30pm. The time was 3.20pm. I told my friends and they said that they did not want to be rushed off so we said no thanks but by then another table had become available so after a bit of toing and frowing we sat down. After waiting for about 15 minutes we asked if we could order and was told to do so at the bar! OK that was fine but wasnt informed of this when we sat down. Our food came up nice and quickly but unfortunately was a little on the cold side. We had roast beef which was lovely but the portion was really small and the yorkshire puddings were a little on the cold side. I was so hungary so just started to tuck into mine but one of my friends was really cold and she asked for more gravy thinking this would heat it up nicely but to no avail. The thing is the food was lovely and well presented and vegetables were nice too but a bit on the cold side. A lovely couple sat down next to us and he had double the portion of meat that we had !!! I really would love to come back to The Great Exhibition because we had a lovely day and liked the buzz of the place but ÂŁ14.95 is not a cheap price for a roast dinner so would expect a little bit more for the money. I will put it down to an off day and would really like to come back as loved the jazz band and the...

Horrific service and food. My cousins, friends and I booked for lovely girly brunch for my cousins birthday and ended up leaving when the food came. All was fine at the start we got settled and ordered our brunch. the food came out instantaneously which clearly showed it had been sitting under a heater / in a Bain Marie waiting to be served. the plate looked very sparse and the food was shriveled and dry, the potatoes were half cooked and we has half a ramekin of beans, the mushrooms were black and tasted fishy, not to mention the poached eggs that where solid like squash balls it was just awful. we spoke to the waitress and told her that we where unhappy and her response was, "Well that's how it comes". she then said she would get the manager to come over, who never did. when we went to the bar to speak to him he said "Why should i come and speak to unhappy people that don't want to pay, when i have customers at the bar who do want to pay". when having a final conversation with the manager before we left he's attitude was disgusting with the added swear words from him. They threw my card at me on the bar, which was kept behind the bar for a tab and the waitress also dropped the birthday cake I had, had made and bought in for my cousins birthday which left it very damaged. we had also booked to come in the next day for lunch, that was swiftly cancelled. I have worked in hospitality and customer service for nearly 10 years and iv never experienced anything like it. i don't expect any person to be treated like that let alone a customer.

We ended up going around the corner to The Duck Egg, they went out of there to make space for the 6 of us by putting tables together. The food was lovely and the service was amazing. we ended up staying for a good few hours sharing cake with the staff an enjoying the complementary bottle of prosecco...

We (3 of us) booked a table a week ago for a Sunday roast. So we arrived on time and found our table to be squashed in the corner and most definitely not room enough for 3 people unless one is a child in a baby sit. We sat down and all three of us could not even put our legs under the table because it’s so small. Three plates would not of fitted either. The assistant manager was no help at all. He even told us if we needed more space then we should of booked for more people, that is not really acceptable response. He then started to argue with us as if it was our fault he had given us an unacceptable table for 3. He made absolutely no effort to resolve the issue so we had to leave! I have been going to this pub for years and actually my partner used to work there before this refurb (as apparently that has a part to play in our table( heard it all now)) I work in customer service and this is defiantly not how to talk to customers or resolve issues. Lanes really need to look at management choices. So I recommend you book a table for 12 people next time you go to defiantly ensure you get at least a...
