On that fateful day, a relentless hunger consumed me, and clad in my humble home clothing, I ventured into that establishment. Alas, the staff cast judgmental gazes upon me, their eyes filled with puzzlement at my presence.
With utmost politeness, I beseeched them for a mere offering of tap water, while I patiently awaited the arrival of my sustenance, enduring a seemingly interminable 25-minute ordeal. Throughout this time, the waiters exchanged words in their native tongue, accompanied by disapproving glances.
Attempting to evade unnecessary confrontation with such hostile individuals, I simply stated my origin as Syndenham whenever questioned. Nevertheless, this seemed to fuel their disdain, culminating in one of the waiters resorting to derogatory language, branding me an 'idiot.'
Upon the eventual readiness of my meal, I sought to ensure its integrity, only to be met with more contemptuous glares and hostile inquiries. Though the cuisine itself proved to be delightful, the bitter taste of their inhospitable service has left an indelible mark upon my memory.
With a heavy heart and a sense of relief for escaping unscathed from the encounter, I departed from that place. However, the haunting echoes of their disdainful laughter in their foreign tongue lingered, deepening my resolve to never darken their doorstep again.
Indeed, I am grateful for the preservation of my life amid this turbulent encounter. Yet, the memory of such an unwelcome experience has indubitably stained my impression of that establishment...
Read moreWent there for a dinner date with my wife on a Saturday evening.
As soon as we walked in and mentioned that I had made a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and shown to a table for two.
Whilst we were checking the menu, our host brought over poppadoms and 3 dips which were complimentary.
We needed a bit of help deciding between a paratta and roti for a side dish, and our host was very helpful with making us decide.
For starters, we had crab prawn cake and lamb chilli momos. Mains were mixed sizzler special and Gurkha's Himalayan biryani with a side of paratha. We also got a bottle of sparkling water.
The crab prawn cake had a very crunchy texture and although it was a bit on the bland side, the dip that came with it made it up in terms of flavour. Momos were very flavourful.
All the mains were very delicious. All the meats were cooked very well and the staff were kind enough to provide some extra chillies on the side at my wife's request.
We didn't manage to finish all the food we ordered and had to ask the staff to pack it up for takeaway.
An interesting thing I saw on their menu is that they don't have a service charge, which is a first for us in a London restaurant.
We were very pleased by the customer service, which was always very prompt and friendly at all times. Also, the two small complementary chocolates we got with the bill were a very nice touch.
Definitely a 5 ⭐ review and we will be coming...
Read moreLast night, I went out for a meal with friends. Beforehand, I called the restaurant to check if it was wheelchair accessible, and they assured me it was.
However, when I arrived, I discovered a step at the entrance. I waited outside until someone came to the door. They asked if I had a reservation, and when I confirmed, they led me along the pavement, around the corner, and down a dimly lit lane. There, I had to wait while they moved four large metal bins to clear a path to the back entrance of the restaurant.
I eventually entered through the fire escape to reach the dining area. Given that the only obstacle at the front was a single step, they could have easily provided a small portable ramp. After my meal, I had to exit the same way. Overall, the experience didn’t feel wheelchair-friendly at all. Gurkha's reply below is not true. The front entrance would have been easily manageable with my wheelchair if they had provided a simple ramp, being accessible means being able to enter easily, being lifted and carried in is not accessible.
"Due to space limitations at the main entry, accommodating larger wheelchairs can be challenging. In such cases, we provide access through the back door, which is via the fire exit, not through the kitchen." They make no mention of the fire exit being blocked with the...
