Horrific experience!!!
After visiting Holtwhites Bakery in palmers green on Tuesday for the first time. I was very impressed with there coffee and a almond croissant. All the Christmas puddings, hampers and cakes also look superb! I asked the lady serving me if they made cakes as it was my sisters 40th birthday and my nieces 14th birthday this Sunday, she said that they did but I had to order online. I ordered a Victoria Sponge cake, my late mum always made it on our birthdays, this would be the first birthday we celebrate without her. I also ordered a lemon birthday cake, my sisters favourite. I arrived at the Enfield shop to collect my cakes at 13.30 really excited to pick up my cakes. I was greeted by a young lady who served me. After giving her my name and order number, she told me that my cake had already been picked up!! They apologised and called the customer to bring the cake back! The birthday cake was at this point another mystery? The manager of the shop was in the back frantically making calls to find out where the birthday cake was. She came back and told me that the Birthday cake was missed on the cake making run and that she was very very sorry!! At this point I have 35 guests at home waiting for us to eat , drink and celebrate the birthday they had come to, but no cake to put candles on!! At this point I am completely mortified and really cannot believe my luck!! Sunday afternoon on a tight schedule and needing to find 2 birthday cakes!! The manager said they would box up loads of the single portion cakes on the counter and give them to us to soften the blow of their mistake! It wasn’t ideal but at least we could serve cake to our guests. The Victoria Sponge cake was delivered back to the shop by now so at least we could use that to blow candles. After 45 minutes in the shop and all the cakes boxed up ready for us to leave the manager reappeared and proceeded to tell me that the Pastel de Nata’s where on the house and that they would be refunding the Victoria Sponge and birthday cake that was not made, but the rest they where advised by the owner needed to be paid for!! This completely threw me!! Until now I had been calm as everyone can make mistakes!! But after been offered everything in the shop to help with there mistake (the server even told us through the whole fiasco to take whatever we want from the shelves) to be told to pay for it now made me furious!!! Although a fantastic walk in bakery with great products in stock!! The customer service from the management has left me with the worst taste in my mouth!! I feel completely let down and came home to a house full and no birthday cake for my nearest and dearest!! Utter shambles!!! As a local business owner I know we all make mistakes, but when we do, we do everything we can to make the problem better! It was all good and I would have carried on using them until they wanted me to pay for their F**P!! In the end absolutely terrible experience all round!! I hope the owner takes a good look at herself and sorts out her...
Read moreOur family have been going to Holtwhites since the day it opened. As well as the perfect loafs (the 50/50 is one of our favourites) Holtwhites make some specialities which you really must try. One of the best we've tried is the Chase Sourdough, a taste you have to try to appreciate and a crust with the perfect crunch when toasted.
If you have a sweet tooth, the brownies are unbelievable. The Millionaire Shortbread is amazing and the good old sticky buns are light, fluffy and delicious. There are so many more things to choose from, including an impressive deli counter full of cheeses as well as tea & coffee to go and fresh sandwiches made daily from the house-baked bread. It was a revelation when this place opened just at the bottom of our street and we're so pleased to see that Holtwhites have rightly won some fantastic, well deserved awards to recognise...
Read moreA truly outstanding artisan baker. Hot cross buns which were soft, beautifully spiced, generously fruit filled & with a sweet sticky cross glaze were wolfed down in nanoseconds. The pains au chocolats were French standard and the carrot cake was heavenly, so scrumptious. I could write another review on their excellent breads on their own.
Service is exemplary. The young dynamic team is always warm, welcoming, polite, intelligent and brisk (amazing given the queue). Their small & gorgeous shop is scrupulously clean & socially distant compliant which inspires confidence. Get there early to avoid disappointment, pre order or order online.
I can’t understand why this business has not scaled up yet. They should go for world domination starting with a branch in Winchmore Hill (it really, really...
