We've just moved to the area and as this place is only a 10 minute walk from our home, we opted to try it. There are items that are clearly marked as being vegan on the menu, so I assumed they understood what "vegan" actually means! I just wanted a simple avocado on sourdough toast without any butter or vegan butter substitutes. The lady taking the order seemed confused when I placed the order and when I told her I was vegan and allergic to dairy she offered me gluten free bread which has nothing to do with veganism and most gluten free bread is not even vegan friendly. 10 minutes after placing the order, another lady came over to the table and tried to serve me a plate of toast with avo and a massive pile of POACHED EGGS! My husband had a falafel wrap as he is also vegan which he said was just ok, but nothing special. They remade the food for me, but I did not eat it as I was completely put off after being served eggs after stating to the staff that I was vegan. I wouldn't trust the kitchen staff not to cross contaminate my food, so there's no chance either of us will be returning. The staff seemed friendly enough, but they need to have more of an understanding of different dietary choices, ingredients used in their kitchen...
ย ย ย Read moreDisappointing. I have been a regular customer up until now. Prices have increased which is understandable with inflation increasing, but the quality of the food, mainly breakfast, has deteriorated. Breakfasts used to be served with thick sourdough bread, thick bacon, a large mushroom and include a tea or coffee. However, this week when I visited with my son, the bacon is now the thinnest available, cheap sliced bread, one tiny mushroom and a tiny pot of beans. When I went to the counter to pay, the male (I presume owner), added a service charge automatically, making the cost of two breakfasts and two coffees almost ยฃ33! The female members of staff have never added service automatically. Other cafes in the area would serve a similar breakfast, with drink included, for less than ยฃ10 each. With the drop in quality here, and much higher prices, I will be taking my business elsewhere in future, as the quality I used to be happy to pay more for is no longer there. Perhaps the change in management would explain the drop...
ย ย ย Read moreHave just been into the green room. Whilst there we met an elderly friend who we informed of the eat out to help out scheme. After he had paid he noticed that he had not received his 50% discount. He asked if anything could be done and was told no, he should have stated he wanted the discount!! I have just looked up on The government website which clearly states the discount should be applied AUTOMATICALLY because the government refunds the difference!! Telling customers they must state they want a 50% discount is false information. Not only has the owner just lied to the elderly gentleman and not given him the 50% off he is entitled to, we were also asked to sit at a table which had not been cleaned and when I asked for it to be cleaned a waitress came with a damp cloth. No sanitising product and not wearing a mask. My son noticed she was closer to him than 2m and not wearing a mask and got scared about corona. I will never be returning to this place, it is unsanitary, unethical...
