Midway through the morning Common stroll with the Boss straining at his leash, we stop for an infrequent treat. A nice strong hot builders for me and a sausage and bacon baguette to be shared, while the wildfowl on the lake eye us speculatively. It's warm and bright today and while my dog dozes under the bench after devouring a jumbo sausage I think of all the times I've stopped at Honest Toms over the years at various times of day and night straddling two millennia, two centuries and maybe three decades. As to the snack bar, it's the consistency and little touches that make it worth the stop. Reasonable prices for good servings of everyday food cooked and served with care. Read moreWent there today absolutly gutted wont be going back ... used to go here alot live just accross the common unually clean and cook my bacon just how I like it and my jackets. however today was horriable ordered a slush puppy for my neice ... woman who served me picked up the end of the straw with the same hands she used to take money from the previous customer ... im not usually cautious but at a time of covid I have been more cautious... she did not use hand santiser nor wash her hands ... im gutted as I love this place previous staff were always clean ... even without a pandemic... will not be going back .... ! Down hill service...
Read moreOne of the little gems of the common, and I think the only (?) service in the park to stay open all night - this actually makes it more than a takeaway van, but a beacon of safety/warmth/human contact at night!
Tom's keeps locals going thru all weather, with great service, a friendly welcome and good comfort food. A tiny operation but puts in focus what little Lambeth council (who run the park) do in terms of night time outreach, security, visible staff, safe places, shelter, and basic human amenities, when they are most needed, from sunset to sunrise.
