Local rec/ community joy: This morning I went to Hornbeam cafe. It’s community based and open to public Thurs-Sat, you can have hot/cold drinks, lunch and cakes/sweet treats. It’s a pay what you can model, with a scale of 4 options. There was lots of people who clearly spend the whole day to get company/warmth/food. If you ever fancy a chat with someone who might need it, I recommend taking a book and going, there might jsut be someone willing and in need of a chat & human connection. Today one of the regulars was an older lady. They had a party last night for their regulars and I heard her say ā€œit was the best night of my lifeā€ my heart literally melted. The other days it has refferal programmes and Sunday is private hire. They have community based workshops regularly (see pic for this month). Theres lots of leaflets for local support services for a range of needs. It’s LGBTQ+ friendly and they have queer art on the walls.

Gleaners Cafe is extremely popular in a bustling Bakers Arms world still not up there about the earth in danger. The vegan meals are freshly prepared and lovingly presented by table attendants who memorise customers' first names. You pay what you can and one should not forget something for the volunteer workers' pockets. Many I mix with reckon it's too posh for them.. Nonsense. Go see for yourself and check out creative works Everyone is valued and seen to

I just love this cafe. 25 years part of the community! I went along for supper, a pop up kitchen - and it was 'Marli's Kitchen'. Vegan Soul Food. The Brazilian Black Bean Stew was delicious. It was all the extras that totally smashed this dish. Sliced plantain, mint and lime 'slaw. The homemade Mango Hot Pepper sauce...that was magic. This pop up restaurants change frequently. Check before you go.

Was very excited to try this local vegan cafe but was left disappointed. We ordered the fry up and the Palestinian breakfast. We ordered at 13:00 and dlikeidn’t get our food til 13:45 which was a long time especially when there was only a few customers in the cafe so it wasn’t busy at all. We had to ask multiple times when our food would arrive and kept being told ā€œa few minutesā€ but we ended up waiting 45 minutes. The breakfast itself lacked flavour and also didn’t arrive piping hot like it had just been cooked which i would have expected. The sourdough was hard, the tofu scramble was seasoned with too much salt and the beans tasted very sweet which i did not and the seasoned fried potatoes lacked flavour

when paying, we explained to our waiter that we waited 45 minutes. She seemed surprised that we waited that long when she was certainly aware as we asked her more than twice when our food would arrive. She offered to take £4 off the £25 bill which i feel like was not enough for how long we waited.

It’s great to see a local vegan cafe but i would not be going back again nor would...

Just returned from the place; it is small but warm. The veggie 'English breakfast' brunch, however, was underwhelming to say the least. The price is OK (£6) but the food is nothing special. You only get 1 egg, no b&sq, no tomato, roasted potatoes not very good (no hash browns), beans whatever... The 2 veggie sausages were OK. The brunch doesn't even come close to the one we recently had in No67 cafe in Peckham (you pay a few quid more for a truly amazing veggie or 'con carne' breakfast). Our daughter had a slice of an average sized potato pie - they charged us £5.50 for it which I thought was ridiculous. Also, no freshly squeezed juice, which I think is a must for a place that wants to be...
