Been going to jennys for years & almost always order the same Meal a set breakfast for £7.90, which consists of egg, bacon, sausage, chips & beans. Like always I clearly ask ( and get) can I swap the beans out for Mushrooms, to which they say yes. I ask for some black pudding which is a chargeable extra- no problem.

Waitress today took my order, tall young blonde girl, heavy on makeup.

My wife was with me & had the same set breakfast swapping out beans for mushrooms ( except no black pudding) Food arrived and we ate it, it was delicious as always. Finished, paid up, noted it seems a little high the bill as she was ringing it all up, the card receipt print out came out & I put my hand forward to indicate I wanted it & she put her hand forward to take it herself, but I got it, paid, thanked them & we left, got just outside the door & looked at the receipt and noted I’d been charged for the mushrooms for my wife & myself £1.70 each, not really a lot but that’s not the point, I had a feeling the bill seemed high, like I said going there for years I know the menu & what to pay.

Went back inside to query it with her politely as mistakes can happen, her face said it all been called out, then tried arguing with me, I responded saying we had swapped the beans for mushrooms which I asked her to do & she has done many a time before, so why am I been charged extra, she still argued & Acknowledged I had asked for the swap but insisted i had to pay , i replied saying I’ve done this many a time with you why didn’t you mention at the point of ordering that you can’t swap & it’s a chargeable extra if that’s Jennys policy? Never been to a cafe where you can’t swap out items for near equivalent said this to her every cafe lets you swap for free, still argued, pointless so I said, disappointed & turned to leave & I could hear her still mouthing off behind my back. One thing I did note the boss man wasn’t there today- coincidence?

As I’ve said excellent food, served quickly, most of the time a great experience, but watch out when you order or more importantly when you go to pay.

It’s the principle of feeling I’m been ripped off for somewhere I’ve used long before she was a waitress there. If she’d made it clear that was policy, I’d be thinking ok usually you can swap in cafes, but not here, I would still order the same & pay for it.

We were all very satisfied with our breakfasts.

The service was also excellent. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend Jenny's Restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and affordable breakfast in Edgware.
