Food from hell. Well, not actually food. I went into this empty atmosphere free “restaurant” early evening this week. I had called in saying I wanted a take away jolloff rice with beef and plantain on the side. When I arrived there was no one there apart from a woman behind the counter on the phone on a social call. After about a minute she said “he’ll be up in a minute”. After another couple of minutes I said I had a cab outside so she shouted for the guy to come up. He came up and asked if I was the one who had called and then went back down again saying he wouldn’t be long. Whilst waiting I noticed this was apparently a zero food restaurant. Incredibly all 6 serving trays, embedded in the counter were empty and clean. The counter itself had nothing on it, nor did the shelves or the display cabinet There was literally no food or drink (or customers) in the entire place. Not even any plates glasses or cutlery. After a few minutes the guy came up from somewhere holding a plastic bag with my “meal”. When I touched it it was so hot from being in the microwave too long that I could have burnt myself. 10 minutes later when I delivered it to my partner in his hospital bed it was still too hot to touch. In the end when it was on a plate at least 15 minutes after I had picked it up it was still mouth burningly hot and could.not be eaten for several minutes. When I say “eaten” I mean thrown in the bin. Oh my god! The “beef” could literally not be cut with a metal knife. As soon as I tried to cut the much too large lumps with the plastic knife and fork Jil had provided both snapped. Not being able to cut it with a metal knife either caused some amusement on the ward. Whatever the meat was it was not for human or even animal consumption. It was one third gristle one third inedible stinking meat and one third hide. Yes HIDE.. like leathery skin. I tried one bit and had to spit it out. My poor partner who loves this dish was having his first meal after major surgery and put on a brave face but was so disappointed. There’s more…The plantain on the side was not on the side but for some reason (laziness) was buried in the rice. 6 incredibly thin pieces of what tasted like burnt (sweet) banana , not plantain, so overcooked they were actually black! Not even dark brown. They looked like 2 pence pieces that had been dipped in charcoal. In the bin. Finally the so called jolloff rice. This was filthy old rice surely from a bucket in the basement with no ingredients in it such as the onions garlic or ginger or garnish. A brown lump, massively mushy because it had been so long in the microwave. In the bin. Prediction; this place will soon be a nail bar.
Postscript: Hello Geoffrey. That’s a brilliant and, considering how unkind I was, a very kind response. Next time we are in the area I will give your place another go. Thanks for the offer of a refund and a complimentary meal. Don’t worry about these as my partner is being discharged from hospital today and we are off west. ...
