I was once walking home when I lived in Ealing some years ago. I pulled a young drunk guy out of the road who didn't seem to speak any English. I sat him down on a wall and asked him if he knew where he lived, or how he was going to get home. He grinned. After many attempts of getting any information out of him, I finally worked out that he was Irish, and of course that meant that he could only have come from one place. I hauled him over the road and into Jonos, where he was gathered up by a large group who very kindly bought me at least three pints of Guinness to thank me for his safe return. That was some years ago now, but every now and again I pop back, and the place hasn't changed much. Still a wonderful pint of Guinness, friendly staff and locals, good sports on the TV, and a fine place to go for a beer....
Read moreAs a local lad, I've been going here with friend and family for years. Always enjoyed the service and atmosphere. However, I won't be going back anymore, nor will anyone who was with me at the weekend. Having settled for a few birthday drinks mid afternoon (about 8 of us in total), my wife and our 4-week old baby turned up and were promptly told that children weren't allowed. This was a 4 week old nursing baby! Completely gob-smacked. So we all left.
Let's be clear, not only is this in contravention of the Equality Act 2010 (which allows a mother to breastfeed a child of any age in any business), but it was 5pm on a Saturday and there were about 4 other people in the entire bar.
But there you go - hundreds of £££'s of business lost both now and in the future. Perhaps some staff training...
