To get to the shawarma restaurant, you walk through the butchers to the back of the store. The store has a ton of options - great groceries.
The chicken shawarma wraps are £3.50 which seems like good value but they are very small. They reminded me of 7-11 chicken taquitos a bit, but in toasted pita. They were very tasty and were both toasted but I would have wanted more.
For some inexplicable reason one had a ton of chilli oil in it and the other didn’t. We asked for chilli on both. Neither had many vegetables except for 1-2 slivers of pickled cucumber. They weren’t what we expected at all, to be honest. Tasty, none the less, but would have liked more salad, pickles and sauces.
I am not sure by the menu how to get these things, but they’re right there so surely it’s possible. It might be the “shwarma arabi” platter only £5.5 that has it?
It was very busy and the wait was about 10 min.
Zaatar with cheese bread was delicious, £2.50 but would have been better with sauce and salad as well.
It’s disappointing that these cannot be customised -...
Read moreThis was my first time trying the shawarma at Fostok, and I must say I was quite disappointed with the portion size. Yes, it may be advertised as the cheapest in London, but it’s certainly not good value for money.
Let me explain why. I’m a gourmet who regularly tries different restaurants and takeaways across London. There are countless takeaways offering a standard chicken doner or shawarma wrap priced between £7 to £10 and the portions they serve are far more generous. With the amount of meat used in just one wrap from a standard takeaway, you could easily make 8 to 10 of the small sandwiches offered here.
So, in reality, what you get here is more expensive and not a good deal at all. If you eat two of these, you’re already spending £7 for barely 25 grams of meat for each £3.50 wrap, maybe even less. Most places give you average of 200 grams of meat if not more in some places, plus larger bread and plenty of salad. Now you do the maths.
This is just my honest observation, and I won’t be wasting my money or time queuing...
