I went to visit a friend at Middlesex University (abbreviated as MDX). My friend took me to a small restaurant across from the university called JP House, saying it's a very authentic home-style eatery. Despite the small size of the place, the food turned out to be really good!
🦆🐷 Two-Meat Rice
Roast meats are the benchmark of any Cantonese restaurant. The roast duck had skin as thin as paper, and the roast pork was crispy on the outside with tender meat inside. The secret roast sauce drizzled over the rice was incredible — I devoured it in no time.
🌶 Singapore Noodles
I absolutely loved the Singapore noodles! Fragrant, spicy, and loaded with ingredients — meat, prawns, and vegetables — all infused with a rich curry aroma. I couldn't stop eating it.
🦐 Stir-fried Prawns in XO Sauce
The prawns were large and fresh, and the accompanying vegetables were crisp and perfectly cooked. The XO sauce was mildly spicy and very appetising, making it the perfect complement to the rice.
🥓 Steamed Pork Belly with Taro
Lippo taro slices were cut to the same thickness as the pork belly. Each layer alternated between meat and taro, with the pork skin fried then braised to form a tiger-skin pattern. The taro was soft and fluffy, and the dish was flavoured with fermented red bean curd, giving it a salty and savoury taste.
🥗 We also ordered stir-fried Chinese broccoli and spinach, both of which were perfectly cooked. The chef's control of the cooking heat was really impressive.
👴🏻👵🏻 While we were eating, some elderly Asian customers were dining as well, chatting with the owner in Cantonese. They seemed very familiar with the place, likely regulars.
❤️ At lunchtime, there's even a student set menu, which is a fantastic deal: a starter, main, and drink for £13.50/£15.00. There’s a wide variety of mains to choose from, making it excellent value for money. Middlesex students and those living in Colindale...
Read moreI had lunch today 15/11 as a student of Middlesex, very convenient location, however I will not go back there again.
The food was alright.
However the service left bad impression of the overall experience.
Me and my friend order food and I order kettle of tea and once we finished our food I still had more that half of tea on the kettle so I requested to give me a take way cup and the lady on reception told that they don't have any take away cups, my friend order after a bubble tea and I requested to give me cup like for the bubble tea which lady declined and said she can’t give them for free, after long conversation I went to pay for the cup and she told me that she can't charge me for the cup on card machine cause minimum amount is 2 pound even I explain that I don't have any coins. I called the manager and she said she is the manager, she was very rude during the conversation and Just shrugged once I told that I don't have any coins.
I asked her to give me any contacts of customer service and she said she doesn’t have. So now I went to Google.
I went out very disappointed and not sure will come back there...
Read moreCame here to celebrate my nans 90th birthday, we booked the restaurant for around 3 hours to ourselves, with around 35 people. The owner allowed us to make up our set menu. We found the restaurant last minute and wow did it come through! Parking is very easy, though we've only visited on a Sunday. The venue has large toilets, one male and one female. The even have a little cloak room which makes gatherings like these more comfortable. But the food 🤤🤤🤤 my favourite was the chicken and sweetcorn soup as starter, the crispy chilli beef was like candy so moorish! Sweet and sour chicken was beautiful. The rice was so good, my nan is the fussiest about rice and she LOVED IT.
We went again a week later and ordered basically every type of meat/sea food. The calamari is just divine, absolutely perfect but the portion could be alot better. However I wouldn't get the duck or the chicken satay again. The duck was only presented as duck and pancakes or BBQ duck. We chose the BBQ duck and it lacked flavour.
Overall food is beautiful, a little bit on the pricey side, the owner is the kindest. Our new favourite...
