Our recent visit to Kensington Thai Terrace in London fell short of expectations, not only by the lackluster food but also by the disrespectful behavior of the waiter. While we anticipated that the food might not meet our expectations, we certainly did not expect to encounter rudeness from the waiter. We had hoped for a pleasant dining experience but left feeling disappointed and unlikely to return. It was the attitude of the waiter that truly soured our experience. Throughout our meal, we felt rushed, as the waiter impatiently hovered nearby, seemingly eager to turn over our table. At one point, while we were still in the midst of our meal, the waiter abruptly attempted to clear our plates, disregarding our evident displeasure and interrupting our conversation. Moreover, their tone bordered on impolite, as they repeatedly inquired about dessert options in a manner that felt intrusive rather than hospitable. While we understand that restaurants may have constraints on time and space, but from the beginning til the end it’s just in an hour, and the restaurant is pretty empty. The manner in which we were treated was unacceptable. Even if the food had been exceptional, the disrespectful conduct of the waiter would have marred our overall impression.

I dined at Kensington Thai Terrace this evening, located at 14 Kensington High Street, London W8 4PT, just a short walk from High Street Kensington tube station. The restaurant has a relaxed and casual atmosphere, making it a great spot for a laid-back meal with friends or family. I ordered the Pad Thai, and it was a satisfying rendition of the classic dish. The noodles were perfectly cooked, with a delightful balance of sweet and tangy flavours from the tamarind sauce. The portion was generous, and the dish felt authentic, though I wouldn’t have minded a bit more fish sauce and spice to give it an extra kick. My friend had the Pad Boysen, which featured prawns, squid, and mushrooms. The dish was a pleasant surprise—fresh seafood paired with earthy mushrooms in a ginger sauce made for a well-balanced and flavourful plate. It’s nice to see something unique on the menu that’s executed so well. Service was friendly and efficient, and the food arrived quick. Prices were extremely reasonable for Kensington, and the quality of the dishes made it great value for money. If you’re in the area and looking for tasty Thai food in a casual setting, Kensington Thai Terrace is worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu!

After being seated we were rushed to place our order despite arriving over an hour and a half before closing. The host wasn’t very welcoming, he was blunt & he didn’t seem to care to offer good service. The food was not authentic at all, was barely warm & seemed to be microwaved or freezer food, definitely not fresh. We ordered 2 courses, but after tasting the sub-par starters, we asked if we could get the bill & the host basically refused and said we had no choice but to pay as the food was nearly ready. Another member of staff then jumped in to reinforce the pressure of having to pay. When we asked if we could at least get the service charge taken off the bill, the host laughed and chucked the bill on the table. He also claimed they’ve been selling Thai food for 30 years - you’re better off getting a microwave takeaway from Sainsbury’s and calling it a night. Even with the service charge taken off, the bill still came to £66 which was not worth it all considering the lack of flavour and small portion sizes. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

My experience should not go unpunished, ergo, my first ever Yelp review...

This place is, without question, the worst Thai dining experience e-v-e-r. The quality of the food and service was so horrible that I question whether the restaurant is not, in fact, a front for some sort of money laundering outfit.

Let's do this as pros and cons.

Pros:

The mineral water was quite good. In fact, exceptional. We attempted to take a picture of the bottle to memorialize the high point of the dining experience but it was immediately yanked away from our table. I believe it was Minton's, the lightly carbonated version.

Also, the plain rice was not bad. Seriously, I grew up in Japan so I'm fairly partial to the differing qualities of rice. This rice was not awful...I would go so far as to say it was very good. Moreover, it was useful so absorb all the grease from the other dishes we valiantly attempted to ingest.

Cons:

Mostly unfriendly, sometimes hostile Thai waitresses/hostesses in existence. You knew there were some, somewhere on this planet. Good news, your search is over. They all work here.

Starters. We decided, not having dined here before, that we would keep it simple. Chicken Satay and the Spare ribs. Each in order then:

Chicken Satay: Chicken was bland but fortunately fully cooked. Peanut sauce was more the "essence" of peanut sauce. One could argue it was the as if Peanut sauce entered and left a room and the lingering fragrance of said sauce was distilled into a dip. Overall experience was "meh".

Spare Ribs: So I'm not sure about the rest of you but I have generally assumed that the number of ribs corresponds to an equal number of "knuckles" I'll get. Not a big fan of the hard, gristle-y, parts. Even less of a fan when the number of knuckles far exceeds the number of ribs. Did I get the leftovers?

Main course:

My companion had, as advertised slightly spicy, Cashew Chicken stir fry. I had the pineapple fried rice. I always try this first (or Pad Thai) as I feel it gives me a gauge of how dedicated the restaurant will be in making the simple stuff.

Cashew Stir Fry: You know that moment when you put something in your mouth and your entire body reacts, en mass, to what is happening? It is as if there is something so wrong happening in your mouth that even your ass cheeks clench in some perverse Pavlov's response? Yea, that it. That's what this stir fry tasted like.. It was violently unappealing. As if garden gnomes, armed with vinegar and replacing every single ingredient that would normally be found in a stir fry decided to substitute them with something unappetizing. As for spicy...nope. You could serve this dish to any hospital patient on the planet...and they would probably beg you for the jell-O. Zero rating on this dish.

Thai Pineapple Fried Rice: Oh my. This was pretty awful. Greasy and tasteless. In fact, it was so greasy you could see the rice sliding down via the force gravity. I have never seen rice move like this. I'm fairly certain that rice is not supposed to be able to move like this. Also, by count, there were 2 shrimp, 8 pieces of pineapple and enough uncooked, ginormous chunks of broccoli and cauliflower to make me wonder if I got the right dish. Zero rating on the this dish as well.

I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. Even to people I do not like. I cannot imagine that anyone interested in Thai food would want to eat here. The mandatory 15% service charge was the final insult to all the injury. A financial violation to accompany all of the previous gastronomical ones...

On the plus side I did receive an offer for oral sex from my companion after the dinner as a way of eliminating the foul taste of the...

A group of us is visiting London for an event and we decided to take a walk for dinner right before our rehearsal. We had ample time to eat and go. Restaurant seemed really promising due to not being busy and pretty good-looking menu.

When we first got there, we got sat down and were ready to order, and they took our order. It wasn't bad at all at first.

A sudden rush in the restaurant started, and more people came and mind you, there wasn't anyone there when our group was there. We sat there and we had our drinks brought to us and it wasn't bad.

We waited for over an hour in the restaurant, and no food has been brought to us. But other tables have been getting their food and they came after us. The food other tables were getting was food that some of us order similarly. As we asked how long of a wait it is for our food to come, because we had to get to rehearsal, the waiter came to our table and slammed a beer on our table and said this is on the house due to time wait. It was quite rude.

We also noticed the smell of pot due to the waiter going to smoke. I think he forgot our order.

Waited another 15 minutes, and we asked again and thought about getting it as take out. The waiter first agreed and said it would still take a little time. He then rudely came back and said we are just going to cancel the main meal and pay for just the drinks. It was very rude.

We also found out that after we left after trying to get to rehearsal, they overcharged us.

Overall, it was not a good experience, and some of us were quite hangry. I understand that the food was probably delicious but did not get the opportunity and was very...

Last night walked in straightway because it was very close to Holiday Inn. The staff was nice although we didn't have reservation. We simply ordered set dinner menu. The starter was good, same as soup. After that, a crazy long waiting time for the main, and no staff has come to explain, it was frustrating. Finally the main turned out, the waiter served the other table who actually came later than us, I said" are we forgotten?" the waiter responded" no, we don't. we serve you two the same time." then served us after he done the other table, which made me really uncomfortable. After all, who came first, who should be served first. He didn't even say a " sorry, for the long waiting." This is awful service- no common courtesy. However, the worst is happening, the main contains 4 dishes: chicken curry( extremely salty), beef stir-fry( hardly to chew), prawn stir-fry( the prawn is raw, not cooked at all), pork( ok compare with other 3), along with stir-fry rice which is completely tasteless and soggy. We lost our appetite very soon after trying each dish . We just paid and left.( the manager does offer to take service fee off, I didn't take that. because that's not the point I care.) The most awful and shocking experience ever, and in Kensington which is unbelievable! I learnt lesson, be careful before you walk into the restaurant, although it was a posh place, you still need to think and make...
