If I could give this cafe 0 stars I would: we were late for the train and needed to pick up a bite on the way. The cafe was virtually empty at about 9 am and I walked in and asked if they did take away and how long it would take to prepare as I needed it quick - the waitress said she didn’t know, to which I asked again whether it would 5 minutes or 15 and if she could give me an approximate time frame (naturally if it would take longer, I would simply move along and not place an order.) she told me it would take 3-5 minutes, which was great! I placed the order and asked if I could pay the bill and gave her a 50 pound note (the bill was about 7 pounds and something). I received 13 pounds in change. When I told her the change was incorrect, she proceeded to tell me it was because I was rushing her (which didn’t make sense because I specifically asked about a time frame before placing the order to see if they could accommodate me). She then handed me the correct change and told me I had an attitude problem. I collected my items and told her that politeness goes a long way, to which she responded bye and to not come here again.

Now, despite being late, I turned around and asked to speak with her manager. When the manager came to speak with me, as I was relaying to him what had just taken place the same waitress stood right there, kept interrupting me and called me a liar. The manager then proceeded to tell me this was not fast food place, that this was the best waitress he had, and that his staff is respectful DESPITE her interrupting me twice and calling me a liar IN HIS PRESENCE. He also told me he is the owner and not the manager - not sure what his point was, but i would think as the owner he would have a greater interest in protecting his livelihood and correcting his employees bad behavior? He further concluded with how this wasn’t worth his time. Needless to say I was quite shocked. If you want to get waited on by abominably rude staff and an equally rude/incompetent manager then this is the place for you - make sure you check your change, or you may also be several 10s of pounds out of pocket to...

I am visiting from the US and I felt like my presence was not welcomed. The waitresses were rude and felt extremely "fatigued" serving many foreigners, especially Asian/Asian descent foreigners. The tone of their voice was different when helping locals instead of foreigners such as I. When I arrived at the location, I read the little podium sign that said "Please wait here (outside the door) to be seated" or within that proximity. I waited outside until the shorter waitress invited me in after she cleaned up a table. I am a very reasonable person and I understand that everything takes time. I went inside the establishment and took sometime to look at the menu. I immediately knew that I had to have the red velvet cupcake, scones, a pot of earl grey, and a chocolate cake. The taller waitress approached me after some time, and I ordered. She rudely told me that "we don't have red velvet cupcakes!" Okay, I would prefer that she revises her manners. I decided to place the rest of the orders and took some time to look at the menu for a replacement of the red velvet cupcake that was unavailable. When I was ready to order a muffin, I called the shorter waitress and she told me, "Hold on a second!" I understand that they are busy, but I strongly encourage her to carry herself, or themselves overall, better when serving customers. I was not in anyway demanding or rude so their behavior was atrocious and discriminatory. I was recommended to try the food at this establishment by my younger sister who used to work as a flight attendant. She raved about this place especially the scones with jam and devon cream. I gave this place two stars. One star for the awesome scones and another star for the clean lavatory. The lack of mannerisms discourages me to go back to this establishment although I love the scones so much. I have heard the same complaints from other people, strangers or not. This place have so much good food but I think, I will take my money somewhere else where I am valued more as a respectful and...

Simple yet a cosy interior, the set up was very nice. After reading the reviews before my arrival, a lot was said about the staff but also that they had a vegan selection. I decided to try out this place with a friend who seemed to be very enthusiast about this traditional tea shop. When on arrival, it was quite busy which is to be expected. We were welcomed and placed at a table by the counter, overseeing the treats that they had to offer. When reading the menu, I couldn't find a single thing that fitted my dietary requirement besides the tea. Therefore, when the waitress arrived I asked whether they had any vegan options as I remembered from the reviews they had a selection of plant-based goods. However, the waitress asked whether I checked the menu. I said yes and that I couldn't find anything. She then stared and simply said well then we don't have anything if it's not on the menu. Surprised but not shocked I was content with just having tea. My Friend, on the other hand, ordered the set menu which she was quite happy with overall. The tea set up for me was delightful and quite cute. However, my problem with the tea shop isn't the quality but the staff. From our position, I watched as customers were treated harshly by the waitresses which put a downfall on our visit. Having worked as a waitress myself, I can understand the pressure of being a waitress, dealing with customers and the role of working. However, these waitresses didn't seem to be experienced as they were quite rude and fed up which I do not commend on. It would be lovely if this problem could be dealt with. After finishing our meal and paying in cash. I noticed that on the counter they did, in the end, have a selection of vegan goods which slightly annoyed me as the waitress told me there were none. However overall the experience of being in a teashop was quite nice despite the employees. Would recommend for enjoying a cup of tea or having...

Tuesday morning and there’s a line for cream tea and breakfast. Very busy inside. The girl at the counter seems to be confused when taking order, as her mind is occupied by multiple tasks from welcoming customers to preparing juices and toasting scones. She was so absent minded to the extent of being quite rude. I can here to get emergency scones to-go for my American friends. The scones they had last time was not British enough. I looked up on google map and found this place before meeting them. Interesting the scones are already cut in half here. The size is quite small both in terms of height and diameter. Not built to impress, a manageable size to enjoy. Texture-wise, it is nicely crumbly without being too dry and breaking into tiny bits. The aroma of butter keeps wafting out of the plastic bag, and it’s flavor is rich and creamy. No need for clot cream (this one is too oily for me) or jam. The scones still tastes good even when it cools done and absorbs more moisture, imagine a softer airier shortbread. In terms of shape, because it’s cut, it isn’t exactly the scones I’d like to introduce to my friends across the Atlantic, but they can still do the job. Overall, not a must-visit, but I’d recommend it for people who tried the regular shaped ones before and want some cute bite-size snacks. The line is long so getting some scones and do a picnic at the garden would be a better option given their sloppy service. (Warning: no student discount for takeaways though.)
