My wife and I Iiked the concept of this hotel, so we were excited to book and check in. However, the theory of this hotel and the reality of it are very seperate. I'll break down my observations into categories:
Good The bed was very comfy. We slept on it very easily. The location is great, several things to see and do nearby, and not too far from 2 seperate transit stops. The price for the location is decent. Room was fairly clean. I didn't notice any issues with the sheets, and the bathroom seemed fresh, other than the shower curtain which stunk. More on that later.
Mild Annoyances The Wi-Fi was unreliable. Sometimes it was very quick, sometimes it was very slow, a few times it would fully disconnect for a minute or two. The room is a little too small. Obviously, we knew this going in, but it's smaller than you expect, making it very annoying to shuffle around our luggage during our stay. If it was even just a little bit wider, it would not be an issue at all. There are no windows in the vast majority of the rooms, including ours. This isn't a huge deal, but it made it surprisingly difficult to wake in the morning with the lack of natural light.
Bad The bathroom is way too small! Again, we knew that the bathroom was small based on the pictures and ads, but it is unbelievably small. The curtain wraps around you while showering and is easy to entangle with and it smells so bad (mold/mildew)! I eventually just pulled the curtain open and dealt with the over splash. Also, the handle for the shower sticks out too far for how small the shower is. I'd keep bumping it trying to avoid the curtain and end up changing the temp. Also, I had to sit on the toilet diagonally; my legs would not fit in front of me with the door closed. Also in the bathroom, both the sink and shower faucets had extremely tight tolerances for hot to cold in the middle. I would guess it only takes a millimeter of turning the handle to go from the coldest setting to the hottest, and the hot water is likely over 55C, it is scalding to touch! Very bad when combined with how easy it was to bump the handle in the tiny shower.
Horrible There is no control for the AC/Heat! It got insanely hot in our room, to the point where, even while fully nude and not using blankets, I would wake in a pool of sweat. There are two small vent holes in the ceiling at the door that constantly blow a small stream of moderately cool air, but it is far and away not enough to keep the room cool. I believe it exceeded 30C in our room multiple times. I could probably deal with the other issues if this was not an issue, but the lack of climate controls is a total deal breaker for me. I would not stay here again unless it was practically free off of this...
Read moreFollowing reputation of EasyJet, we decided to stay at EasyHotel in London (14 Lexham Gardens, Kensington, London W8 5JE, UK) during 3 nights. However, we could not imagine that such a small room could be offered to someone as a “hotel” kind accommodation. Pictures on the website did not reflect the reality and gave wrong impression about the size of the room and the available space. We were ready that it would be “relatively small”, but we could not expect it will be “tiny”, so tiny that two people could not stand at the same time in a “double” room and there is absolutely no space for a luggage! Such space (about 4m2) looks more like a prison cell, especially since there are no windows. The entire space practically occupied by a mattress and enough extra room to open the entry door (which opens inside and requires space to open). There is neither table, no nightstand, no seat, and absolutely no place where one could put his/her clothes.
Shower room was next to the bed, where the shower separated from the toilet by a curtain. When you take a shower, everything gets soaked. The walls in the shower were not clean, so was the toilet.
There were no common space in this hotel, no table or seat, where you can eat your breakfast. Although the hotel offers breakfasts there is no place in the hotel to eat it. It was suggested by the staff of the hotel to take the breakfast box and eat outside of the hotel, which is completely ridiculous! The content of the breakfast is not variable. Our boxes included a small pack of milk and the cereals. We asked for non-dairy product due to an allergy but that could not be provided, therefore we had to cancel our prepaid lunches.
The hotel does not provide a restroom to the clients, even for emergencies. We arrived in the morning directly from the airport. The check-in was at 15.00. We paid in advance to leave our bags at the hotel but we were not allowed to go to the toilet even in the great need we had.
When we provided our feedback to the staff of the hotel we were told that this hotel is “for different kind of people”. What kind of people? Is this some kind of segregation practiced by this hotel chain?
Generally, we had a terrible experience at this hotel. We literally counted days to leave. The whole stay was like a torture, even though we are experienced travelers and stayed in inexpensive hotels many times before. I would not advise anybody to stay in this hotel despite its proximity to London downtown. I really hope other Easy hotels...
Read moreI stayed at easyHotel for just one night and honestly it's very much a 'you get what you pay for' kind of experience.
I booked the small double room and as expected, the room was extremely tight. There was barely any room to move around, especially with two people and a large suitcase. It was cramped and moving around was a big struggle.
One thing that really surprised me was how many levels the building had without a lift. That meant lugging our suitcase all the way up the stairs which was quite an inconvenience. I would feel bad for anyone staying on the higher floors with heavy luggage. It's definitely not the most accessible property.
The room itself reminds me of compact hotel rooms you would see in Japan. Very minimal, very small. The bathroom was tiny with the toilet and shower squeezed into the same small space. To make things worse, I had to wait a while for the hot water in the shower to work and it was not pleasant.
In the rooms, there is no built in heating or thermostat. They provided a portable heater that was placed outside the door. I guess it would be more comfortable for guests if they had proper temperature control inside the rooms.
To my surprise, the bed was very comfortable. After a long day at work, it did the job and gave me a decent night's sleep. So in that sense, it fulfilled its basic purpose. But if I were staying here for a holiday or a longer trip, I would not be satisfied at all.
There's not much in the room at all, no kettle, no tea or coffee. The TV was outdated too so if you are expecting something modern or cosy, this probably isn't the place. The real upside was the price which was very affordable - especially for a Saturday night when rates are usually highest.
On a more positive note, the location is great. It is within walking distance to stations such as Earl's Court and Gloucester Road Underground Station which definitely makes getting around London convenient.
All in all, it was an interesting experience. Whether it's the right place for you really depends on your needs. For me, it worked because I just needed somewhere functional for one night. But for anything longer or more comfortable, I'd suggest to...
