Booked a table for two for a Sunday roast for 12.
We arrived at 11.45 and the bartender created us in a friendly manner. As we had come for Sunday roasts, she told us the kitchen only opens from 12, but we were ok to wait for a few minutes and ordered some drinks meanwhile - one pint of lemonade and one of lime & soda. After setting the glasses on the table, we noticed there were lip marks all over the rim of both glasses. Luckily I had asked for a straw for both of them and we hadn't taken any sips from the drinks, so the glasses had not been cleaned properly. Hence the 4 â for the service.
The food took a bit longer than expected, around 25 minutes. I had opted for fish & chips, whereas my partner went for the pork belly roast. The fish was very nice and crunchy, with sea salt flakes on top. The triple cooked chips were nice and crunchy, although I would've expected some more of them. They also gave me 4 sauces besides the mushy peas: mayo, ketchup, curry sauce and tartare sauce. I must say the curry sauce was lacking in flavour. Luckily the tartare sauce and ketchup helped on that front. In terms of the pork belly, we were surprised by the quantity of meat my partner got. However, she had the same issue as with my curry sauce: her food lacked flavour, as well - the pork belly was on the bland side and the gravy seemed watered down. The veggies that the pork was served with were ok. 3 â for the food.
The atmosphere in the pub was ok: there was music coming from the speakers which was at a higher level than expected, however that didn't pose a challenge to us having a conversation. We chose an area of the pub which was separate from the main space, with an U-shaped couch, wooden table and views towards the benches at the front of the pub. It was a sunny day, so we took full advantage of that, especially as it was a bit windy outside.
Overall it was a nice experience, and even if the food we had this time didn't impress us, we were very happy with the premises overall - particularly my partner, who was impressed by the cleanliness and overall state of the women's bathroom. Whenever we'll be around the area again, we'll be looking to try some of their...
Read moreit is such a beautiful pub and one we have attended many times over the years. Honestly, the food was shockingly bad. Except the burgers which 4 members out of our party had. Specifically , the camembert which cost 16.00 It had been over cooked! Meaning I paid 16.00 for a sharing platter that embarrassingly could barely be shared. Hummus sharing platter, no complaints, it was lovely with lovely fresh pitta. The sausages and mash, the steak and chicken kebab were really not worth paying for, at all! The S+M - the mash was so dry The steak - the actual steak itself was tough the chicken kebab type thing - this was my dish , the chicken was so dry , and the bread was hard, it was the same bread that came out with the hummus sharing platter which had fresh bread, but when it came out with my main it was so stale, the food took over an hour to come to us - you had five tables maximum and we were your bigger party. the saving grace for the evening was that it is a lovely pub and two members of your team, Kieron and a Liverpool accented young girl were very efficient, friendly and helpful. I will not be returning sadly, for your over priced and over cooked food. Our final bill came to over 300 pounds, and today I have begrudged parting with a single penny for a below average meal. I write to you with such honest feedback as the food use to be good, but so strongly feel that last night was such a waste of money when there are competitors near by who would have excelled in their food. (the telegraph for example) which we normally go to , We decided to go back to Kings Head as haven't been since pandemic, and as stated will sadly not return ever again for food- potentially a drink , but will be inclined to have your pub as LAST option. I had to leave such negative feedback but i really hope it helps you guys...
Read moreJust had the worst experience I have had in a pub in a long time.
This used to be a great local pub with great food, itâs now AWFUL.
The staff excluding original staff are unfriendly and rude, Ethan is uninterested rude and unfriendly.
This is the third time I have tried to eat at the pub, the last time I came they cooked the sausages until burnt on the outside completely raw in the middle, Jade who is a great member of the team was polite and got it re-made. To add I have been coming to this pub for over 10 years and it has always been great but has gone rapidly down hill in the last year.
We just ordered a burger and chips which was cold and fish and chips which was over cooked and brown, either old dirty oil or burnt. We sent it back Ethan didnât apologise and took it to the kitchen in which Brian the chef decided to place his hands on the cold chips and stare at us making us feel intimidated. When I got my refund another chef stared at me looked me up and down. We are now staying to drink our drinks and continuously being intimidated as three young women. They got a probe and checked the burger and shouted whatâs wrong with the burger. By the way continuously looking at us as I write this review and threw something on the floor in anger making us feel uncomfortable purposely.
Absolutely disgusting. I run a local business and used to recommend this pub, I will be telling everyone I know about our experience.
Itâs clear this pub doesnât care about paying customers and using intimidation tactics when their chefs canât cook a simple sausage, chips, fish or a burger which by the way is ÂŁ20 per person.
AWFUL, if you want good food and great service thereâs great places nearby, avoid...
