A really nice building with faux farmhouse style decor, clean and welcoming presentation with a nice log burning stove to greet you as you come in. The staff are friendly and polite. Harvester is ideal for families with young children also good for teenagers etc but not a place if you have a palate for quality food. Theres lots of choices on the menu including steaks , mixed grills, burgers and ribs along with an all you can eat salad bar, most of the salad items comes in pre prepared , chopped , grated etc although I believe the chef quarters the tomatoes himself. I wouldn’t generally eat here but it was my teenage Daughter’s turn to choose the restaurant and she loves the chicken burgers that Harvester offer. We ate here a couple of weeks ago ( my first time in over 5 years ) again at my Daughters request , on that occasion I returned my £14 beef burger and fries as although it was probably hot when the chef plated it it was barely warm by the time the waiter found time to serve it . My experience today was similar to last week, I ordered fish, chips & mushy peas, the peas were luke warm , the fries were limp and soggy and again just warm, the greasy fish was hotter than the later items but only just, I left most of the fish, all of the chips & the peas. The waiter asked if everything was ok when he cleared the table but didn’t hear me when I said mine was cold and I didn’t press the issue. We ordered deserts and I indulged in a caramel sundae while my daughter opted for apple and berry crumble with custard , the fruit in the crumble was extremely sour almost inedible without the “own brand tasting” custard . When harvester first opened back in the day the menu was centred around the mouth watering racks of spit roasted chickens on view as you entered the restaurant , juicy ribs and piled high crisp salad bowls served with oven fresh bread rolls. Sadly Harvesters 2022 ethos is higher prices and lower quality . I’m sure a lot of people enjoy Harvesters offer but this one’s not for foodies .

I visited on 7 March 2022 as I wanted to try the Harvester Purist Burger, so when I received a text on Sunday night offering 50% off mains, I thought I'd pop down for Monday lunch. I had tried to pre-book on both Sunday evening and again on Monday but the app was on a loop which wouldn't allow it to go through (I gave up after 3 attempts) I've not been here for years but it's just as welcoming as I remembered with a lovely open fire as you walk in which I adored. Bethany spotted me and was eager to come over and welcome me, complimenting my "look and energy". I did apologize for not pre-booking explaining about the app but she'd said it was not problem and found me a table for four, though I spotted a hidden table for two which she told me nobody ever wanted, so I was glad to be the exception to that. Bethany was exceptional with all her patrons - she clearly loves what she does and is deserving of her Customer Award badge which she shows me when I took her photo. I had the Purist Burger (£13.49) with chips which was delicious and an Appletiser (£3.05) and though she offered the salad bar - staff do it for you due to allergens and hygiene - I didn't have any as I was full enough. I was in and out in 20 minutes which was excellent as that's how I like to do an impromptu lunch. With the 50% off the main I only paid £9.79 all in and, as I used my Visa points for a Leisure Card, it cost me exactly ... zero I would be back to the Harvester as soon as they add new vegan mains to their menu, as the service, food and entire experience was flawless from everyone. It is a popular place so I would advise booking for larger groups to avoid disappointment.

Hey there, today we had visited the Harvester in Larkswood as we haven’t been there for a while , and well we’re all very surprised to how the restaurant has turned out to be , it’s a shame the way it has gone down hill. Firstly the cleanliness was awful , the glasses were very dirty and we ended up not giving our daughter apple juice because of it as they said it didn’t come in a bottle. The chicken from the kids menu was wet and soggy luckily the chips were good enough for our daughter to enjoy. The cheese on the chicken that my partner ordered was not even melted on the chicken, the texture of the cheese was hard. The baby high chair was absolutely disgusting very dirty and stains everywhere from when it hasn’t been cleaned properly after use (or even cleaned at all) The cutlery holder had sauce around it and dry food, the menus aswell also had dried sauce all over it, luckily we had baby wipes handy to clean the baby chair and the menus so we can use them. We also was not offered any drinks to go with our food as we had to chase up the waitress ourselves, I believe this was due to low staffing levels, we realised this from the beginning as we had to wait 20mins for a coffee and had to chase up the staff. We had spoken to one of the staff/team leaders about this however they did not seem bothered, I did see other staff cleaning the tables however it’s not just the table that needs cleaning… I hope this sheds light on our experience and I can assure we will not be going again anytime soon.

The Harvester Larkswood

Chingford, United Kingdom Not very satisfied November 2024 Was very disappointed with our food on Saturday...We know it was busy, but very slow service..And the small plates (starters) where shocking bad ..Especially both my wife and her sister choose 2x4 small plates each...They where severe overcooked and cold..just uneatable...Plus the rib eye from my family member was very tough, plus the chips where soft and cold..So not happy with it all,..normally this place is fantastic, as it is our local..

Epping, United Kingdom Date night....food a bit disappointed September 2024 Had dinner tonight and was a bit disappointed with the food.. My wife had the prawn cocktail...It was just some micro lettuce and cold water prawns (5..6),with loads and loads of sauce... Lobster tail was so tough...She couldn't eat it....And her scallops and prawns where overcooked.. My steak was good.. So a bit disappointed with it... Have to think twice to come here again...

Sorry, my notes did not transfer over. Basically, it wasn't a great experience and I've been to this branch loads of times and have never had any issues. We were greeted as usual by the friendly young lady, sorry I didn't get her name but she's been there for ages and is lovely and very friendly and helpful. It was a bit busy which probably explains why we had to wait a bit for our food. There were 3 of us. Two of us ordered Crackerjack prawns as starters and the other, chicken wings. I always have the prawns as a starter and they looked different, darker, like they've been over cooked. The coating was hard and definitely over cooked and it was not enjoyable at all. Len's prawns were the same . The chicken wings were tough with no flavour. I always have Haddock and chips since they no longer do cod and I thought that at least they can't get this wrong but I was wrong. I should have taken a picture as the haddock looked overdone. The batter was hard and I had to fight to get any of the haddock. It was very disappointing and I should have returned it. I don't usually leave a crumb but I hardly ate any of this. The chips were fine though.. Len ordered ribs with chips, I take it that they were sweet potato fries as they were dark in colour and very dry and he left most of them. The chef needs to take a good look at himself and make sure that every plate that leaves his kitchen is handled with care and to a good standard but he failed us on Tuesday. When they were taking our plates, I pointed to the hardly touched haddock and told the lady that I didn't enjoy it as it wasn't up to standard, she apologised and took the price of a glass of wine that we ordered off the bill. That was nice of her but I left the table hungry and disappointed. I paid by cash and was asked if I wanted my change ( really?) This wasn't the lady who greeted us, I think she may have been new. I left a small tip anyway because the service was ok when the food came. I'm sure this is an isolated incident as I overheard a table near to us say that the food was delicious. In a nutshell, Staff were ok, salad ,normal chips and ribs ok but the rest needs work. It was fitting that on the way out, the chef was seen leaning over the counter laughing with staff. We got a good reception when we were leaving but we may have to find somewhere...
