A cafe with all the potential in the world with a bit of effort. It’s great to see somewhere open here and it’s all quite smart. Sadly there were a few shortcomings which can easily be rectified with some care and attention.
We went for the park view upstairs but it was closed 45 minutes before closing leaving the less exciting lower level. Nowhere was this advertised and when you’re paying premium prices the customer should come first rather than convenience of clearing up early. Closing the best part of your cafe early is pretty poor going.
Upon arrival it was unclear whether it was table or counter service and it took about two minutes to be acknowledged by staff at the counter. The cream tea was ok, but strange not to have a pot of tea. A teaspoon and knife were provided to have the scone and cream (but no fork). Some butter would’ve also been nice and the scone was shop bought so sub par.
The staff generally weren’t hospitable and seemed like they didn’t really want to be here. Clearing items seemed forced and they didn’t mutter a word in doing so. It is a great location and has a lot of potential. It just feels like it’s run by people who don’t really care or know how to run a cafe. Maybe others will have a better experience but it feels like they need to do more to deliver want they’re trying to achieve.
Realistically would rate lower but appreciate repurposing the building and it not...
Read moreWhat a delightful café! Almost don’t want to review it, as I’d like to keep it a secret!! This is my 3rd visit & as a dog owner I often come to Bushy Park so Lions Gate Cafe location works perfectly. Today I stopped for lunch & tried their leak & feta quiche. It was still warm as Chef Na had just pulled it from the oven and added a fresh salad. Honestly this is another level of Quiche! Im taking 2 portions home! On previous visits I’ve eaten Caprese Panini, chopped fruit salad, GF Carrot cake, teas and coffees. Delicious home made and original food choices. I shall keep this Cafe in mind if hosting a small or special event. It’s a fresh, clean, pretty interior and together with stunning views (esp upstairs little balcony!) it’s worth considering. Well done Slav, Na and whole friendly team! Dogs are welcome on ground floor. Not tried their ice...
Read moreNewly opened and beautifully decorated cafe with stunning views of the park. The top floor/balcony is air-conditioned and dog-free and tends to be quieter which is very welcome, but everywhere is light, airy and really well thought-out in terms of layout and presentation.
The coffee is excellent (including the decaf blend!) and you get change from a tenner for two coffees and a pastry - unusual and a lovely surprise for anywhere this close to Hampton Court. Have definitely found our new regular place for coffee and will be coming back to sample...
