🚇Borough 🍺 £6.10 Amstel ❤️ One of London’s finest pubs. Located in the heart of Borough on London’s shortest street, you’ll find The Lord Clyde pub. The nearest Tube is Borough which is a four minute walk away. The Lord Clyde was built in 1913 by Truman’s Brewery and was one of the first pubs to adopt a plainer and simpler interior style as part of the “improved pubs” reaction against ornate Victorian pubs. The pub's namesake was a Victorian soldier who served with distinction in the Crimean War, and later in India. As you approach the pub from Marshalsea Street you are met with this pub’s striking tiled facade. This is a two bar pub with a central wood panelled servey at its core. The main bar is traditionally decorated with an atmospheric oldschool feel. There are some fantastic heritage pieces dotted around the bar, a stunning Truman mirror and a framed Truman’s price list from 1961. The smaller back bar is wood panelled like the main bar, has an original fireplace and a hatch to the servery. There is a proper red patterned carpet running throughout, a dartboard and piano also. At the front of the pub are a number of benches to enjoy a drink in the warmer months. The beer selection was good, there was a combination of familiar brands plus an impressive selection of five cask ales. I had a pint of Amstel, my pint was great and cost just over six quid. The food menu was traditional pub grub, Fish & Chips is reasonably priced at £14.49. I arrived around 2pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon in July. The pub was fairly busy both inside and out. The crowd was a mix of locals plus a few tourists. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed, most punters were here for the beer, some were enjoying a bit of pub grub. The service was great, I was served by a lovely member of staff, she was welcoming ,courteous and had everything under control. I last visited here six years ago and thankfully not much has changed. I absolutely love visiting @lordclydeborough . The beautiful tiled exterior, the nostalgic traditional interior and the way this pub makes you feel. This is one of London’s finest pubs. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 15.07.23

A proper London local The are formulas you just don’t mess with. Lord Clyde Southwark Bridge’s variables are beer, bar food and benches. What does it equal? Comfort. My colleague and I sat there chatting about the world. The horse racing aired on the TV. The barman stood focussed on the next potential customer approaching the entrance. We ordered food, an easy choice given the limited menu. It arrived expediently. My Pieminister jackfruit and ale pie atop pie and mash was a thing of beauty. It tasted beautiful too. My colleague finished his pint before popping to the kazi. I took a better look around, admiring the beauty of the elegant historical decor. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

Was decent value and tasty, now expensive and average. Pie and Mash, Pies are no longer proper pies but meat in a bowl with puff pastry on top. Gravy is runny and tastless compared to red wine and onion you used to get and the mash...we'll they didn't have any so I have chips. All these negative changes and the price has gone up. Would have given 3 stars but pie, chips and a pint for ÂŁ21 is way too expensive for what it was. There's a lot better and cheaper elsewhere in the area

We’ve been regulars at this pub for years, coming at least twice a week and often staying for hours, enjoying both food and drinks. Unfortunately, after our most recent visit, we won’t be returning.

After spending over three hours at the pub and ordering several rounds of drinks and food, my friend and I were finishing our drinks and having a quiet conversation. Within just five minutes of our glasses being empty, the owner came over and rudely told us we needed to order more drinks — “this isn’t a chat room,” he said — because it “looks bad on him” if people are sitting without a drink.

Frankly, we were shocked by the tone and attitude. We weren’t loitering or being disruptive — we were simply enjoying a conversation after spending a considerable amount of money. The way we were spoken to was dismissive and disrespectful.

As the owner of a hospitality business, he should know that looking after regular, loyal customers is part of the job — and it’s exactly what hospitality means. Sadly, this kind of treatment shows a complete disregard for the people who support his business.

It’s a real shame, but we won’t be coming back. There are plenty of other places that understand the value of their customers and treat them...

My order came wrong the first time, then the fix came cold. Both times pointing out the issue, the waitress told me “I don’t know what you want me to do” as she started walking away.

The guy behind the bar was helpful and asked her to help, but otherwise she just wanted to walk away - she had the worst attitude of any waitress I’ve come across.

Mistakes with food can happen, we can all easily forgive that and move on, but the attitude will ensure no customer who deals with her and has an issue will ever come back.

Aside from that, the pie was good, and the carrots tasted great, the fries (not chips) tasted like a cheap thin frozen supermarket brand, and the other vegetables tasted like they had been sitting there all day and were badly reheated (soggy on the inside, dry on edges), fries and gravy were both cold.

I heard them mentioning that they just launched a new menu, and the quality looks way worse than the photos Ive seen on here from previous customers. Be aware the food will be different...
