I was very excited to check out this new bar opened in central London because of the theme and concept during their soft launch, so booked a table with 2 friends to try.
On the day we were running a little late due to traffic so I called them while I was on my way to let them know we were going to be late. I was very anxious as they charge £10 per head, which I thought was a bit too much for a soft launch when everyone would be anticipating their launch, so shouldn’t be too many cancellations. I understand if it was after soft launch. Anyway, they were understanding and I was about 10 minutes late.
The interior wasn’t as nice as I saw on Instagram. We got a small high table by the door, which felt like an extra table, an after thought. We didn’t get any service or attention for ages, until we finally managed to flag someone down who had to ask someone else to take our order.
I ordered the Pomelo Sling cocktail and my friend ordered the Dragon Old Fashioned, and at £13 and £15 each, they tasted pretty weak. My Pomelo Sling tasted like watered down fizzy drink, even on first sip. (And these weren’t even in the soft launch, just the food)
The dim sum basket for 2 at £24 looked like something you buy from the Asian supermarket and throw together in a steamer; no presentation. The roast meat sharing plate at £26 wasn’t that enjoyable. I would definitely go to Chinatown not too far away for proper roast meat. The texture of char siu was not authentic and the crispy pork belly was not crispy. The worse dish was the Singapore noodles; too peppery and no authentic taste to it, it tasted more like the rice noodles I make at home.
We had no interest in ordering anything more. Everything was too salty and we went to a local Korean restaurant for more food after. As an Oriental person, I would have loved this to be great, but unfortunately was...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at Lucy Wong Restaurant in London, and I can't say enough good things about our experience. The moment we walked in, we were charmed by the romantic ambience and the decor that’s got mysterious oriental vibe to it, which, along with dimmed lights, creates a warm and intimate atmosphere.
All the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Stevy, in particular, stood out as the ‘heart and soul’ of the place with his amazing bubbly personality. His warm greetings and genuine interactions added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening!
The food was absolutely delicious! Each dish was prepared with careful attention to details, resulting in great flavours and elegance on the plate. We could tell that the chefs pour their passion into every plate they create. We especially would like to compliment the Dim Sum platters and the jelly fish salad, which we most certainly will be coming back for!
The cocktails selection truly exceeded our expectations! The list is so big, you simply cannot try them all in one go. The mixologists at Lucy Wong truly have a talent for crafting drinks that are as visually appealing as unique in flavours. Every cocktail we tried was definitely a masterpiece!
The restaurant's central location is another major plus. Nested in the heart of Fitzrovia in Central London, it's easily accessible and makes for a perfect spot whether you're a local or a visitor exploring the city.
To sum it up, our evening was beyond exceptional. The combination of great ambience, attentive staff, great food, and superb cocktails make it a must-visit little gem in London. We simply cannot wait...
Read moreSo we saw this soft launch which had a deal on for half price on food. We made a booking which lacked the way to get the special promotion, but after an email they updated it. The seats they gave us was a high chair and I have a bad back so I asked them for a low seat which they moved us to lower seats. There dim sum isn't bad the sui mai could be bigger and it had some fatty bits, the har gao was good, the mushroom and truffles was nice, we just didn't try the monk vegetables dim sum. The BBQ puffs were nice maybe more filling needed. The Singapore noodles had red peppers and they took the peppers out as I'm allergic I added the chilli sauce to spice it up. The jellyfish was a refreshing dish, the roasted meats was interesting the belly pork was the best, the cha sui was a bit dry and the duck was also a bit dry. I also asked for three of them as the individual portions to see there size, but we got given the sharing platter. Why I took a star off, the chicken skin was actually my favourite as it was very tasty without the miso sauce. They didn't have any desserts and I felt the menu was limited and for the prices if I paid full price I would expect larger portions and when I compare it to pearl Liang or royal China I felt the food wasn't as fresh as could be. The roasted meats only the belly pork tasted fresh melt in your mouth goodness with crispy skin... If the dim sum was bigger and had 4 to each dish and bigger roasted meats and a dessert option I would give it a 5. Decor was nice not really 1950s, but nice enough and clean. It was busy.
