TL;DR: I would 100% recommend any people who either choose not to or cannot eat gluten containing products who are not satisfied with the fact that gluten free products are just not up to scratch, they clearly can be and Ma Ma's gets it.
As someone who can't eat normal pastry or other gluten containing products, it's always nice to see a new business pop up with my dietary requirements in mind.
I usually give them a try and then promptly forget about them as it's just another average experience that fails to meet my high expectations of what good baked products can be. I am usually aware from the texture or taste of the food that this is in-fact a gluten free product and that takes away from my enjoyment of it.
I came to Ma Ma Boutique Bakery, hopefully optimistic, I had passed this store before it had opened, frequently on my way to work and so had been looking forward to trying it for a while.
Cutting to the chase, the food is fantastic, Nigel, the nice, welcoming man who greeted us, had informed me that the cinnamon swirl I had selected was a little denser than regular ones but I expected this already as I am sure all gluten free readers of this review will understand. It had the texture of a regular donut and the icing and cinnamon were perfectly balanced. I was very pleasantly surprised at how normal this food felt to eat and how I wasn't feeling that disappointment of "Yup, that's gluten free all right". My partner bought the Blackberry and Raspberry cake and it was equally delicious and fooled me into thinking I was not eating a gluten free product!
I would 100% recommend any people who either choose not to or cannot eat gluten containing products who are not satisfied with the fact that gluten free products are just not up to scratch, they clearly can be and Ma Ma's gets it.
Thank you Nigel and thank you to Marzena for creating these delicious products, I certainly look forward to...
Read moreSo I originally visited this bakery on 15th Oct and gave it 3 stars as on the day I went there was one option without nuts which was a blueberry banana bread. Which at the time I said was delicious, but as I had only had one thing and one option I felt like my experience was limited. I did go in on a Sunday and it was later in the afternoon, so I appreciate that it was nearer to closing time.
I have edited my original review as on Google you can either edit or delete and I want to reflect my experiences.
I was when I originally tried this bakery and I remain happy a GF bakery opened near me. I went today and yesterday, both times getting the apple and cinnamon loaf cake- essentially looks like the banana and blueberry but a different flavour. It was so nice, and I even bought one for someone else and they could not tell it was GF. Both were moist and mildly sweet. A good balance to have with a cuppa tea.
I was really impressed that they were more options cake wise, for me as a nut allergy sufferer. From memory this included a blueberry crumble, and something that was salted caramel- maybe a brownie. They all looked delicious. On all occasions I have been the owners have been really helpful- as I have an allergy I generally always check and it gives me peace of mind when the bakery knows the ingredients used.
The bakery does not have lots of sitting space, and every time I have been there has been customers to sit in and take away.
The bakery did not have lots of sitting space and the place was busy. I will note that the plates were all empty which I think is generally a good sign.
I would recommend you give it a try, however if you come from further away seating is...

The part that is really outstanding about this small business is how they care about their customers. I first encountered their products at a local market and after trying their cheesecake left a review with constructive feedback. The owner apologised for the situation and offered some complementary options and after visiting their place and talking to the owner in person who explained everything in detail, I trust that it was a one-off oversight.
This business takes feedback seriously and acts on it and this is what creates trust with the customers. Another positive side is that the owner of this business was a proponent of the local street food market rather than an opponent like some other business owners were, which is really important for the ecosystem.
Bumping 4 stars into 5 and leaving the original review here for transparency: “The cheesecake was good although to be honest it tasted pretty basic. The price/quality ratio seemed a bit off for...
