Very disappointing. We were a group of 6 family members looking for a hot drink stop mid morning before watching a play at The Compass Theatre over the road. We were going to go to Costa just three doors down, but thought weâd support local and sat on their outside seating at Maison du Soleil. We had never been before and sadly will not be returning. We went inside to order some hot drinks and were abruptly told by the man behind the food bar to go sit back outside as they would come to us. So we did. We waited 10 mins with no one coming and went back inside to ask if we could order some teas and coffees and were once again very abruptly told someone would come and take our order and to go back outside. Another 10 minutes went by of being ignored and half of our group were tempted to leave, but we went inside, ordered at the desk, made a point that no one had come, and a slightly flustered waitress apologised. We then waited another 10minutes for 2 cups of tea, 2 hot chocolates and 2 coffees to arrive. The hot chocolates were cold and the coffee not very nice. The milk for the tea was longlife UHT. Basically, I wouldnât bother going here, abrupt staff, not well managed and poor âhotâ drinks. Just...

I visited this café hoping for a relaxing break, but unfortunately, it left me feeling frustrated and unwelcome. There were no options for lactose-intolerant or vegan customers, which was already disappointing in 2025 when dietary inclusivity is such a basic expectation.
I asked beforehand if I could buy something from the Co-op and enjoy it there alongside a tea. I was told that was fine. But once I returned, bought my drink, and sat down, I was abruptly informed that outside food wasnât allowed after all. The change in tone was confusing and uncomfortable.
During my visit, I also saw two separate groups leave, clearly dissatisfiedâso I know I wasnât alone in feeling that the atmosphere was off.
I usually love supporting local cafés, but this experience fell short of the warmth and flexibility that make independent spots special. A little consistency and a few inclusive menu options would...
Read moreThe cafe itself looks nice and the location is good but wasted because the service is rude. I went with my husband and 5 year old son. After about 10 minutes my latte arrived which I had to drink alone. After a while my husband's coffee came and then eventually my son's order - we had asked for vanilla ice cream. The woman brought out a milkshake and I told her we didn't order this we wanted a bowl of ice cream. She repeatedly told us 'well somebody has to have this' and I told her we won't eat/drink anything we didn't order and will not pay for it. She then just completely lied and said we did actually order a milkshake, even fabricating an exchange between me and my son where I asked him what flavour of milkshake he wanted! Sheinsisted that we just have it because they made it now(!) My son was a bit upset because he thought it was his fault. No apologies made. We won't...
