We were a party of 6 celebrating a joint 50th, 70th and 80th. We had the 3 course lunch with unlimited Prosecco. From the outset, we felt rushed to order and were told we had to order all 3 courses at the same time. Most of us don’t really drink and only stuck with a glass of Prosecco with one top up. Starter and main were ok, although we had to remind the waitress that we had ordered the red wine sauce to accompany the steak. By the time the sauce had arrived, the steak was cold. With the dessert, it was clear that the waitress had got the order wrong. They came back to us 3 times to double check what we’d ordered… it was frustrating as we were all very clear with what we had ordered and each of us could recite what each of us had ordered!! We ordered 4 tarts and 2 rhubarbs, so it was hardly confusing!! After the desserts, one of the parties asked if she could have her glass of Prosecco topped up and the waitress was quite rude with her response. She said no, because we were only entitled to 90 mins of top ups!! We were not told this during our meal and fact that only 2/6 parties drank Prosecco, I thought it quite petty of them to stick to this unknown rule especially as the lady organised and booked the table and particularly when we only drank probably a bottle and a half between us throughout the meal. Then very shortly after we settled the final bill, we were told they had to prepare the table for the next sitting and asked us on no uncertain terms to leave….This was the straw that broke the camel’s back and I felt compounded to write a review. Upon leaving, there was no queue of customers waiting to be sat, which was not a surprise since it was around 3:30pm so too late for lunch and too early for dinner and the restaurant was only at 40-50% capacity!! Having come from a restaurant background, I am fully aware of the challenges restauranteurs have and would never, out of spite, write a bad review. However this was my joint birthday celebration with a group of mature woman, some of whom had travelled in to London from afar, but this experience has left a bitter taste in what should have been a lovely lunch together. I suggest that this establishment reviews their practices and conveys the time limits imposed for ‘unlimited drinks’ to customers from the outset and ensure that staff are trained to take orders rather than infer that any confusion was caused by the customers. They should also not take large table bookings if their staff are unable to cope….In summary, food was ok (nothing special) but the rude service ruined our experience and day. The lady who booked the reservation is extremely upset and regrets that of all the places she could have booked, she chose this one for a very special occasion!!...
Read moreI simply cannot believe how bad this was. I am not one to complain or even write reviews but I feel it is my duty to let the world know how terrible this place is. We arrived at 8.30 for dinner and after 30 minutes we were finally given tap water and a glass of our unlimited Prosecco that we had to ask for. From then, we knew the service was going to be slow but we didn’t know how slow. We could see many tables around us asking for the waitresses attention but they would purposely turn their backs or not make eye contact. I genuinely couldn’t believe how inattentive and unbothered they were. We finally got to order our food and the waitress wasn’t even listening and literally left while I was talking mid sentence lol. She then came back after a minute and wrote down our order. Me and my partner looked at each other in confusion. 15 minutes went by and the waitress came BACK to ask what we ordered for our main? I’m not sure if she even wrote anything down, by then, I thought Ashton Kutcher would come out and announce we were being PUNK’d. It’s now 10.15 and our Main has arrived. We ordered 2 sirloins each - medium, broccoli, potatoes, garlic aioli and red wine sauce. The potatoes or red wine sauce did not arrive and the steaks and broccoli were freezing. The food must have been sitting there for an hour and the garlic aioli was brown? It smelt like marmite and it was rock solid. We sent back the food to be reheated and let them know we were still waiting for the potatoes and red wine sauce. After 10 minutes the steaks and broccoli came back and guess what… no potatoes or red wine sauce still. We reminded them politely again as I was not eating a steak without sauce. The steaks were also RARE, look at the picture! The table next to us were laughing hysterically and we started having a conversation. They also were having a horrible experience and it was laughable. We started to look around the room and every single table was sharing our experience which is the only positive I can take. It wasn’t personal. It’s 10.50PM now and my food is cold AGAIN because I was waiting for the rest of the mains to come. I called the manager over and let him know that he can cancel the desserts and everything else as our appetite was completely gone. He didn’t even mention the bill because he just knew. It genuinely felt like we were in a movie, I have never experienced anything like it, every single table in that room had their bill reduced or dismissed. You must be a massive risk taker or unhinged to visit this restaurant after reading my review. Avoid at all...
Read moreVery bad experience at the weekend for all four of us. We were firstly asked to wait in the bar area as the restaurant was apparently too busy, however when we were taken through to the restaurant after twenty minutes the restaurant was actually 3/4 empty. Our first interaction with the waitress was her telling us that the salmon and steak tartar on the starters, one of the steaks on the main menu and the chocolate fondant on the deserts menu were all unavailable as they had been busy. Totally unacceptable and even more so that these missing items were not replaced with another dish. Once I explained how unhappy I was that these items were unavailable the salmon starter and fondant dessert were then miraculously available again. We also had to order our deserts when making our starter and main orders which was ridiculous and nothing more than the staff trying to speed up dining. We then, after ten minutes had to ask for our bread and when our starters finally arrived I had just two scallops for an £8 additional supplement. When our main courses arrived my wife's fish filet was full of bones and the spinach was way too salty, the steak had no steak knife with it and the pork belly was 50/50 meat and fat, but the fat was totally soft and inedible with no attempt made to crisp it up. We had also ordered broccoli that arrived to our table when two of us had finished our mains. The deserts then arrived to the table within three minutes of our main course plates being cleared, which was a clear indication that the staff wanted to go home. There was no music throughout and absolutely zero atmosphere with a Wetherspoons pub quite frankly having more life within it. Our bill then arrived and 21.50, without us even asking for it, which I refused to pay until I had spoken to the manager. I spoke to him, where I explained that my background was in bars and restaurants and after a short conversation he agreed to remove the balance and agreed that the service had not been the best or what they aim to achieve. This was very disappointing from start to finish, especially as my wife and I had stayed at The Cavensish Hotel two years prior and the experience was perfect. This however was a major let down and we will now most certainly not be returning.
The waitress that served us was actually good and clearly felt uncomfortable with what she was being told to do and tell us and other than the poor points the food was acceptable.
I don't like to write poor reviews, however this was clearly not a one off and is a common occurrence at...
