I have no doubts that the proprietor of More Munchies is friendly, and gets repeat business because of his open demeanor. Were we not going though a global pandemic at the moment, this review would read very differently.
If you are in the 'vulnerable' category, as I am, I do NOT recommend going into this cafe. As I walked in I was told "don't wear your mask, it's easier if you don't wear it...". Easier for whom, exactly? I was the only person in there wearing a mask. Is it not currently recommended, by the Govt, to wear masks when in a shop at the moment? Apparently the owner of this cafe knows differently.
A family of three came in, mother, daughter, and grandmother. The owner asked the cute child for a kiss, which she sweetly obliged. Where is the social distancing element here? I recognise the owner is trying to be his 'normal, friendly, self' - but these are not normal times.
None of the staff are wearing masks, or gloves, and are handling food, payment, and everything else, without any washing of hands in-between. I said to him "I must say, it feels like there is no virus, the way you're acting in this cafe.." - he replies "yes, it's great isn't it? We're giving everyone a calm sense of normality in here!". No - you are not. You are not making me feel safe, taken care of, or respected. By recommending I remove my mask, and not taking any precautions in the preparation of food, I will definitely not be taking any risks with my health by returning to this cafe, until the pandemic is over. Why would an establishment not make every effort to make people feel safe, whatever their viewpoint, or health condition?
In the interests of hygiene, over friendliness, I would recommend addressing the way More Munchies conduct their business. But, of course, they can do...
Read moreThis establishment celebrates its quarter century anniversary this year. Rous gave me an exceptional welcome as I passed by originally: went back the next day. Kept coming back.
And now...I can say that as a single man (who is most definitely rubbish at relationships) I find breakfast at More Munchies to be "a fine dining experience."
This is because I feel comfortable in my own skin (and how we feel is important to our own selves, obvs.): and as I am rather in love with my own self, my own company never disappoints, I laugh at my own jokes and (most importantly) I am not hungry anymore.
More Munchies will suit most early morning needs: including Halal and Irish! Ask about veggie or vegan feasts. (There was a self enclosing bubble where you could be served, eat, read or watch the news or listen to to Radio 2. You might like that.) And the staff will check to see that you love this establishment as much as you love your own self. You can guess what I think.
The best part of any day in Britain, is when a Brit breaks his fast and decides to eat. A true Brit knows how valuable this is: and is always prepared to pay a proper price for good service.
I value this establishment really rather highly. I recommend it without a single reservation. I will make sure not to haunt the place so that you too (dear reader) can love yourself in your own bubble.
And afterwards, if you need to, go to the toilet and leave a deposit. And then go to a book shop and buy Ian Wright's book. It's great. Thank you for your attention to this. Check out the photo with the nice...
Read moreJust been for my first experience here, I am in Acton for a month training up at a local firm. Suffice to say I will likely be in this cafe the majority of lunches. Soon as I walked in I was welcomed and asked how I was, without a hint of that 'forced customer experience'. These guys are genuinely nice, the atmosphere is bustling, radio on but not too loud, news on a big screen with subtitles, everyone being well attended to without being too fussed over. Now, the food. Oh man, just had a standard cafe brunch, 2 of everything and some mushrooms. Everything on the plate arrived equally hot, perfectly cooked, and the sausages, mate, the sausages stares into the distance in awe. I also noticed that the menu caters to EVERYONE. There are veggy, vegan and halal options, which I don't necessarily require, but they are actual meals not just your token 'options'. Recently almost everywhere I get food, especially when ordering in, will be exclusively halal or not, but here, it's all as you want it. Upon departing I commented to the staff "that, felt like having a fry up in the 90's" when I had less responsibility and generally things felt a lot better. To top it off, I was given a little bag of Haribo on leaving and I will say, I dont think I'll ever be too old for that treatment. 5 stars, 100%, hopefully this good natured, happy and busy vibe will be infectious to other businesses. I'll be back...
