This is a good place. The staff are friendly and helpful in their work which always makes for a positive vibe to start the day. The coffee and cakes and sandwiches are good and the presentation great and they take pride in the service which is a rare quality and one that I value. The surroundings are good too: a nice design to the place which the pics in the reviews show off well. Always good music playing too that isn’t intrusive (usually I hate that) and it definitely adds to the atmosphere. They have a good bookshelf too which you can grab a book off and read while you enjoy the coffee and food. And there is some nice seating outside where you can watch the world go by for a while. There never seems to be any shouty mobile activity either. It is all those nuances that make this place a cut above. If I had one criticism, there is a little too much entitled laptop activity where individuals tend to hog whole tables or areas and with the cafe being boutique and small it can be a problem finding a seat if there are a couple of you. The whole selfish laptop, grab a table for hours with one coffee, I don’t care about others, is a real tedious antisocial blight. I’m not sure what owners can do about it, but this is why I have given four stars instead of five. This is a good cafe though and the people working there deserve credit. I hope to have many more fine coffees and lunches there and I wish them...

Staying in Angel and walked past this place at 12ish so pipped in for lunch. A cute, kind of querky place. Staff are nice but bit unsure of what to do. Greeted us and made small talk, explained we were looking for something to eat and a drink and he said OK and just kind of stood there staring expecting us to know the menu. It was fine though, food was really nice, I ordered the truffle mushroom and cheese sandwich, truffle was there slightly but could have done with a bit more as mushrooms overpowered it. Wife had vegetable and hummus sandwich which was delicious. Drinks wise, smoothies, one strawberry split and one pash n shoot, cannot be faulted.

Price wise, £22 with student discount. More than fair I think.

Would definitely recommend and if I am back in the area...

Awful customer service by the manager.

My friend ordered a coffee, after a moment of indecision during which she was trying to decide between two options. She got given the wrong coffee. She went to the manager who had been serving her and asked for the correct coffee. He told her very rudely "what do you expect if you can't make up your mind". At this point, I intervened and said politely that I thought the manager's response was rude. He then started yelling and trying to argue that it was all my friend's fault. I insisted that he was the one who was being rude and told him to please stop yelling. His yelling got worse and he said that I was also now "on his bad side" and told us to leave the store.

The whole thing...

This was a nice spot to stop for lunch on a Saturday. We had a chai latte, salt beef sandwich, and jollof rice. Paying about £25 altogether for two of us. The sandwich and latte were good, the jollof rice was pre-packed and in the fridge, he did microwave it, but it was still disappointing to see it wasn’t freshly made. Also, despite it being a Saturday afternoon, they’d closed down half the cafe, so there were only two tables of two. These were both taken, so we had to sit at the counter, which was not comfortable for eating. There was definitely enough space for everyone to have a table, they just refused to have any other tables open, even though there were enough people in the cafe to use them.

Lovely little cafe with a warm welcoming service. The coffee is really interesting as it's provided by Redemption Roasters who work with prisons to teach coffee roasting. The coffee from Mr Beanstalk is excellent and the croissants are freshly baked. As someone who has struggled to make croissants, I appreciate how light and moist these things are without being greasy. Finally, the cafe itself has a lot of plants and feels like a lovely place to relax or work.
