Noisy Oyster London, E1 I find myself a little conflicted. I arrived very early, as plans changed and I sat down not long after they opened. The lady I had communicated with, sat me, as requested, near the kitchen, so I could watch. There appeared to be a brigade of 4-5. The sole waitress recommended two small plates and if I had room a main. She recommended a mini martinis, which I insisted was non alcoholic as I was driving later. She also recommended focaccia. My two small plates were octopus in a tomato sals like sauce. The other was one scallop sliced paper thin with a sauce. Both were ok, the octopus was more interesting and flavoursome. The bread was delicious and great for the tomato. “Main” was a very nice single raviolo with eel and egg yolk. The sauce was subtle but nice. Dessert was a small pavlova with gooseberry, a perfect combination. My history is over 2000 trip advisor reviews, mainly restaurants and 128 Michelin stars, so I am well used to fine dining. I guess my view of the food was…nice but no cigar! The scallop dish was very minimalistic octopus was nice and the main wasn’t “main” sized. I left still feeling hungry, a vey rare experience for me, and almost £90 lighter. It has potential but not quite there yet. The solo waitress only had a few tables to serve but kept missing chefs call for “service”. The venue is very “industrial” in its decor, even more so in the clean toilets. It has potential and indeed may be on the path for greater things but unquestionably needs tweaks! The restaurant was very empty, heaven help them if they get popular. The one over the pavement...
Read moreWe were here for their opening night and I will always welcome a new restaurant addition serving seafood and Oysters, however there are a few things they could improve on to make me want to come back. Overall we had a lovely time and given it was their opening service, so everyone was nervous and dealing with opening night issues, they did really well. The food was all really beautiful and well done and the service was extremely friendly and accommodating. Of course this will also improve once they iron out a few snags. My main gripe though was the price of the food in relation to the serving sizes. I feel like many people will still be hungry after leaving, unless they spend a fortune. Time will tell how the general population respond and whether I'm out on my own but I've been to many restaurants of all different standards in London and around the world and just think they need to increase their portion sizes on most of their dishes, even if that's with cheap options like bread and potato. I also think the menu needs increasing in size as there aren't many options for mains, particularly if you're a larger group. Overall though the food was tasty and it's in a nice quiet spot, minutes from Liverpool Street station, so definitely give it a go if you're...
Read moreI feel a bit hoodwinked by the hype I’ve seen of this newish kid on the block. I’d say the cocktails and snacks were fantastic - great mini martinis, maritozzo, gildas and dressed oysters with a smoked tomato sauce. The scallop crudo with raspberry was incredible with a good amount of zing and the French fries were elite. Great desserts too. However, the salad wasn’t washed properly so I was crunching through bits of grit which is not something I’ve ever had in London before.
Unfortunately, it felt like we were a bother to the staff for deigning to choose this (rather pricey) place for a Saturday lunch. We were generally ignored (it wasn’t particularly busy) and had to ask them for more drinks, and our interaction with the waitress who took our bill left a final bad taste in our mouths.
I’m a bit taken aback as I don’t really expect a lot from London service, but to feel hostility isn’t something I’ve ever experienced - and certainly wouldn’t expect from a restaurant as pricey as this one which is relatively new. With the very dark warehouse-atmosphere, it feels like they hope the “cool” vibes of the place will compensate for the poor service. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you don’t mind being ignored for a...
