Being part of the squash club - this is the cafe' I usually go with friends for a coffee or a bite. I love it cause they provide gluten free meals and it feels safe. The past 3 occasions have been a failure unfortunately so I have decided not to go there anymore, pity as we been a customer for a while. I'm coeliac and every time I inform the staff members, they look at me as if I'm an alien. I have to go through the same speech every time which is quite annoying, especially when they could take note and get themselves up to speed with this very common disease. Last 2 times, despite explaining in clear details, I was delivered food that had gluten, 2 slices of normal bread with it meaning not only that they are clueless, that they didn't pass the message to the chef and they could potentially misunderstand the severity and just remove the bread and get me sick but also that everybody eats and I wait and watch. Also, the gravity is severe as if I would have, at any of those occasions, eaten the food I would have been sick for weeks and that would have caused measure health issues. just negligent on their part. Last occasion I went with my son and to have a meal with him before he would go holiday with dad so it was very special to me and once again - he was given his breakfast and mine had 2 normal slices of bread on the food so I watched him eating. they gave me the food to pack it away and take it with me for free which was an OK gesture but when I went home and eat it later on - there was a hair! I asked the cafe to get a call back from the manager, Alina. She called me but unfortunately I was at work and couldn't speak so I told her I would call back later which I did. she didn't pick up the phone neither called back despite the above serious situation and to be fair, this isn't worth anymore of my strength to chase. They are simply clueless about allergies so be aware if...
Read moreAbsolutely shocked at what I have just experienced. I've been coming here almost daily for 5 years as live very nearby and have a friendly relationship with all staff. I was seated this morning, with my dog, order a coffee, waiting for my wife to arrive, about to order food. The owner then tells me that the table is reserved in 30 mins. So I'm a bit miffed at this, and said I should have been told this when I sat down as I clearly can't eat here now (I'd been seated for 10 mins waiting to be served). She becomes very argumentative and her attitude appalling, visibly scathing at me daring to give her very valid feedback (I have a hospitality business, don't seat someone to eat when there is a 30 min window without telling them). I then go to pay for my coffee (sausage dog in tow), and tell her that the interaction I've just had (basically the argument she had with me) was bizarre, and that I'd been visiting her place for 5 years - she also knows that. Her response is then "well I don't like your attitude and I have enough customer so don't come back". Well, she liked my money for 5 years, what a disgusting thing to say. I'm shocked at this stage, and try to converse with her calmly about the way in which she has handled this and she then threatens to call the police on me!! It's Whetstone on a Sunday morning, not Wetherspoons on a Friday night. This has probably done me a favour as the standard of this cafe has dropped significantly, I only still go there out of habit and the coffee is ok. I feel sorry for the staff, they are all very nice, but the owner is a nasty, nasty woman. Slippery slop from here when you have such disdain for regular customers. And the first bad Google review...
Read moreI have been to this cafe before and I would say overall I’ve had a good experience. I cannot say same of this occasion. At every step of the way my cousin and I (who was with her little baby) had to get the attention of the four staff that were there.
They can’t even blame this on being busy as when we arrived there was only two other couples sat there.
We hadn’t even been offered drinks. We had to call the waitresses over to order our food and drinks.
At no point were we asked if we required anything else. Getting there attention was a hassle, one should not have to try hard to get the attention of staff at a restaurant they should be aware of the fact that people may require other things.
When ordering food for the baby. The pancakes were terrible to say the least we both tried them and couldn’t believe that this was served to children! I would definitely not be serving that to my child!
By this time I had already complained to one of the staff who said she was a manager, I couldn’t quite believe it as she was as not attentive as the rest of the staff working there.
She said thank you for the feedback and would Try and fix this. Non such thing was done and we were ignored still the whole time. We then ordered toast for her baby with butter. They did not even give us cutlery for that. We had to use a spoon. I did not want to get the attention of the staff once again as I was fed up by this point.
The food is mediocre here, I will definitely not been attending again. There standards have dropped massively.
A real shame as I was the one who recommended this place.
(To top of the terrible experience the toilets...
