I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Sushi Mania disappointing — borderline frustrating. We were a group of four, and although we were told in advance that everyone could order individually, once seated, the staff insisted that only one person could place the order for the whole table. This unnecessary rule caused over 30 minutes of delay before we could even place our order, during which staff were dismissive and unhelpful. When the food finally arrived, it was extremely underwhelming. The sushi was shockingly low quality — mostly packed with overly firm, dry rice and just a tiny sliver of salmon, barely visible. It felt like they were cutting every possible corner. We were served just a single small portion of wasabi and ginger — for four people — and when we asked for more, we were met with rude looks and clear reluctance. Service throughout was slow, inattentive, and at times outright rude. For a place that claims to be a sushi restaurant, the experience lacked both hospitality and the most basic standards of Japanese cuisine. Overall, a huge waste of time and money. I left feeling disappointed, disrespected, and honestly, a bit scammed. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values good food or decent service. (Photos attached to show the quality of the sushi we were served.)

We ordered Deliveroo and received Californian rolls with PLASTIC wrapped around the crab sticks embedded within the roll. As the plastic was clear it was not possible to see before picking up and eating and we did not find out until chewing the rolls. On inspection, this was the case for all four of the rolls. See pictures. I would urge anyone eating from this restaurant to be very careful if eating the sushi- as this could be a choking hazard. We were horrified! Very unsafe and unhygienic. They are obviously just chopping the crab sticks with the plastic on and shoving them in the rolls. We will be reporting to the local environment health office as the kitchen needs inspecting.

Worst sushi I have ever had. Worst prepared fish I’ve ever seen from a restaurant. I’ve been a Sishi Mania fan and customer for 10 years - until tonight. Sashimi salad had an unpleasant smell, sushi rolls were prespared very poorly and my rainbow roll was drowning in mayonnaise. On both the sashimi and the roll, the fish had still got skin on. Scraps of sashimi and the rolls looked hacked not sliced. Did not eat my meal and when I called the restaurant they couldn’t wait to tell me that they couldn’t help and to speak to Deliveroo. They refused to accept any responsibility and clearly had no interest. I did get a partial refund from Deliveroo but that’s not the point.

Today we decided to go to Sushimania at Whetstone. We come here regularly, at least once a week. However, we experienced something totally new - in a bad way. While we were having our lunch we realised that we wouldn't be able to finish it all,-(we usually can't because our eyes are always bigger than our stomach)-. So what it's left over we're about to put it in a box. Yeap, we brought our own box to save the environment from plastic and save every week £1 for the box. One of the staff-woman- came to our table and started to yell at us about the following: "You are not allowed to do this, this is embarrassing. You are not allowed to use your own box for take away!" (Box costs £1). What?!??! First of all the boxes should be for free because if you eat in the left over food always should be given by the restaurant for free, secondly yelling at us like "that"!! because of a box it's just not right. After this incident I kept asking the other member of the staff about her name not to put all staff down in my review, in vain. I asked from a man who looked like the manager, giving me the next response: "I'm not working here", then I asked one of the staff about her name. She also denied, but at least she apologised on her behalf. What's going on in this place?!?!?!?!??! That woman did not even come back to our table to say sorry. After we received the receipt with SERVICE CHARGE on it and charging us an extra box without giving one and AN EXTRA SALMON TERIYAKI!!! So we asked them to remove the service charge, extra teriyaki and kindly give us our box if you made us to pay for it. We usually on the top of the service charge leave at least £3 (10%) to them. Overall for the service and tip together we usually leave £6. I hope for the £1 box it was worthy. Well done to you all for today's...

Had a nice night with great company and food. Shame for it all to be ruined by the disgusting behaviour of the staff. Upon arriving, I explained that two of my friends only wanted a few things off the a la cart and myself and one other wanted to order off the all you can eat. Was then rudely told that we would have to eat separately, or one after the other. This would have meant my friends awkwardly watching me eat!!! My friends were then forced to go for the all you can eat menu just to be able to sit together. The service was efficient during the meal, although staff were rude when making room for the food on the table. When it came to paying the bill, I asked if the 10% service charge was optional. I explained that we were university students and therefore do not have a lot of money, hence going for the £16.80 deal. The rude waitress started to argue with the fact that I didn’t have the money to pay the service charge and proclaimed that it was really bad if I didn’t pay it and I shouldn’t do that. I do not appreciate being argued with. She then went on to say that I should have mentioned that I was not going to pay the service charge before I sat down . Then she told us that service charge should only not be paid if the service was bad. I don’t know how she thought she gave a 5 start service when she was ARGUING WITH A STUDENT. She was unfriendly and incredibly rude. She changed the whole atmosphere amongst the table and turned what was a nice night into a very uncomfortable experience. Upon walking out the door, she ran over and said she made an exception as we are students. If this was said before the night could have ended very differently. Would never go again!! DO...

Would NOT recommend. The quality of the food and service has plummeted since 2018.

Between 2018-2020, we used to go to this Sushimania once a month. It started off at £17.80 and is now £24.80.

There used to be large thick slices of fish covering the nigiri and not much rice. Now it’s mostly rice, small pieces of fish cut in a triangular shape at one end that doesn’t even cover the rice. Because of so much rice, we would keep half of it to eat it with the sashimi. We noticed that our order wasn’t arriving and when we enquired, the server told us that the chefs have stopped making us sushi because we left rice behind WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING US. When we explained we left the rice to eat it with the sashimi, he didn’t believe us, so we tried to show him the app as proof of what we ordered. His attitude was really presumptuous and offensive. Very poor service.

We received wrong and incomplete orders. We ordered shrimp nigiri on each of our 4 rounds, but we only received it on the final order.

Poor, inattentive service. The waiters would sign when we would ask for a tap water refill and just brought us a whole jug for us to pour ourself. Wasn’t very welcoming. We had to ask for wasabi & ginger on multiple occasions.

Dirty disabled bathroom with FREEZING WATER (no warm water even after waiting for several minutes).

We didn’t feel the sushi was worth the price and the service was lacking, presumptuous and rude, when we tried to explain re the rice to the server, he just said “well we haven’t changed our chef” and walked off.

DEFINITELY...
