What can I say about Papa Johns?
Their dough is better than the leading pizza chains. Soft, doughy, fresh, satiating.
I used to be able to say a lot more.
Let's get started.
I ordered a sausage and pepperoni pizza (create your own). It seems prices have gone up and quality hasn't even lagged. It has gone down. I also ordered the chicken poppers.
Papa Johns used to do their original Sausage pepperoni which also had their cheese mix on top. I guess they can no longer afford this, even at the consumer expense.
The delivery for this order was 25 mins late as per the text message timings.
Not gonna lie the chicken poppers were good. But the franchises get them straight from corporate. I guess that is why the dough is still good.
The pizza on the other hand gave me vibes of a low income family trying to give everyone at the dinner table a fair chance. Inspiring in that case, but reeking of greed in mine. There were numerous slices with literally 1 piece of topping on. So one slice was pepperoni (at that bite), and the other sausage.
Cherry on the cake, the pizza came with a garlic and herb dip. What happened to the special butter? Arguably the selling point of Papa Johns pizzas.
Quite Frankly, I am starting to realise most pizza franchises in the outer skirts of London are becoming more and more greedy, and for that I will no longer be buying Papa...

I ordered four pizzas from them and the Margherita pizza looked like someone had just sat on it! It was so badly crushed that the plastic tripods were embedded in the dough. The pizza was like mush when it arrived, completely inedible, which wouldn't have been so bad save for the fact that it was for our children. We called the manager and asked for a new pizza and some form of compensation, whether it be a free pizza or a refund as another pizza would take an hour to arrive, but instead all attempts at reasoning and defusing the situation were denied. The manager simply responded with "I'm the manager, and I have the right to make decisions, you can complain to whoever you want, but I have my rights!". And to top it all off? We weren't even given our receipt, we suspect this was the case as if we had the receipt, which had our order number on it, we would have been able to submit a complaint form. As opposed to offering us compensation the manager demanded the pizza be returned to the branch for an "assessment", to which he concluded the pizza was "25% damaged" and yet we were still ordered to pay 100%...
Read moreFirst time ordering from this branch. I risked it, despite seeing the negative reviews.
Overall: It wasn't terrible. Just okay.
Pizza was very sparse, hardly any toppings! I ordered stuffed crust, but the crust was literally almost empty. Not enough cheese, not enough toppings. So you feel like you are eating a thin slice of bread with a bit of cheese on top.
Everything was cooked okay. Order notes followed. They didnt forget the extra dips. BUT I just wish they would pack everything better -- pizza was basically cold, even though the restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from me. The pizza box itself was kind of open, not tightly closed. And because they put the dips inside the box, the plastic had melted somewhat. Don't feel like eating dips inside melted plastic pots.
I usually order from Tops Pizza (rayners lane) and they are much more careful in packing cold items such as dips separately. They also load the pizza with a LOT of toppings.
Probably wouldn't come back to this branch again. I'm just glad the pizza at least got delivered and was edible.
