Coffee is good. Expensive but you're getting a good coffee. However I really resent the system that forces you to choose a tip before you can pay and get your coffee. I hope that given the prices they are charging they can pay their staff properly. But I don't need the awkwardness of that "choose a tip" moment every time I pay. So I'm afraid I'm probably going to be a less frequent customer. I doubt it will hurt them much as they are v popular!
I have read the response and I really disagree. Even in restaurants, the expectation that there should be a hefty tip every time (as opposed to only when the service has been good) is a US import which creates a level of discomfort and unease. It has never been traditional to tip at a bar or counter where there is no table service. Perhaps after several rounds with an exceptionally friendly bartender you might buy him a drink. I don't like the attempt to change that culture - it makes it awkward whatever you do. If you press no tip, you feel like you are being made to feel bad. If you press a low tip - same. If you press a high tip - like you've been forced to pay even more for an already expensive product.
I gave you an extra star for "Food" and I very much hope your business is a success but I don't think this is the right way to...
Read moreWe had two really poor experiences here, back to back. On the first occasion, we just received poor service, with a snappy, passive aggressive male staff member hurrying us through our order and snapping at a mom with two kids behind us.
On the second occasion, I was overcharged. A female staff member came out of the back to angrily tell me that it doesn’t matter what the prices say, and that I have to pay it. Whatever. Our group sits down, and whilst we’re eating, this same staff member comes back twice more to continue to pick a fight over the pricing. It absolutely spoiled our experience, and even another woman sitting at the next table over said, “I don’t understand what power play she’s up to, this is absurd!”
I left my original positive review, and simply added the photos with a small note. However, the owner’s comment prompted me to revise my original review to a more accurate one, reflecting the sum of our visits.
Hope they’re able to get their staff in order, but regardless we will...
Read moreThis place prides itself on doing a good coffee but I can’t comment on that as I’m not a coffee drinker - however my husband is pretty happy with their coffee and he LIVES for good coffee. However, I thought their hot chocolate (with oat milk for me) was well made (they use Mörk). I couldn’t resist the banana bread - mainly because it comes warm with cinnamon butter! Sadly I had to share with my boys so I only got a morsel. Sad times.
There’s not a huge amount of space inside but you can sit and get some light bites and baked goods. It’s probably not best for buggies. There were some people sitting with laptops and I think would be best for a catch up with one or two others. The walls are beautiful and I love the decor.
Staff are...
