After reading the reviews I am shocked how some people can be so misleading!
Bottom line : this is the best delicatessen in existence in terms of how good and fresh the food is.
Every customer who complained in last reviews was ultimately because they most likely either don’t wana appreciate it enough to pay the prices which are fully worth it, or because they don’t get the concept..
Lady in last reviews: of course if you come in and order just a latke , which is a side for £2.95, the owners would not be happy. Frankly I wouldn’t either! It’s a restaurant and delli that expects customers to appreciate what it is and considering this is a family owned business the owners have the right to refuse serving you for a side dish of 2.95 . It’s like going into a Michelin restaurant and asking just for a side dish or just an espresso.. Be realistic!
The salt beef sandwich is amazing, it may seem a bit pricey 10.95 , however when you see the quantity of meat in the sandwich (I suspect just the meat is probably 150-200 grams) I don’t understand how the restaurant would be able to make a living if they sold such a portion for any cheaper!
You can go and complain to the Jewish organization in charge of the kosher meat to ask them why in New York the kosher meat is 30 percent of the price in London for the same products!
Anyways even if you put the kosher aspect aside, if you go to selfridges brass rail it, your bill won’t come out cheaper, whilst this is the origina. You’re in the West End!
Regarding the service, indeed if I come to the delli it’s on a self service concept which means by definition that you choose from the menu and wait to be served . You can’t book a seat but the staff are very attentive and professional. Yet one has to note that some items on the menu , especially the grilled ones are made fresh to order which means you would have to wait until it’s ready (10-15 min), this is normal as that is why the food is fresh and amazing!
When I ordered a steak (as per last reviews - I took advise and did not regret!), which was the best steak I’ve had in London , the waitress checked when I finished the soup , cleared my plate and politely brought me the steak with a smile !
If you want to have a designated waiter you can book in advance the downstairs restaurant (as I did this week for an important business meeting) and you will be served by a waiter with a slightly different menu and a selection of prime steak (one of the only kosher grilled steak on the bone of premium quality in London !).
I advise people that if they don’t know how to appreciate quality food and a real establishment to go to Starbucks , costa or a McDonald’s !
You ultimately pay for what you get...
Read moreIt is with great sadness that I write this… I have been visiting Reubens Restaurant for 20 years, but my most recent visit was absolutely dreadful. Food left a great deal to be desired, service was shocking and we were given items which we did not order - three times, and made to pay for one item which we didn’t order. Tableware was chipped and serving dishes had chips over 1cm big! The waiter was dreadfully rude, dismissive and just unpleasant. What is happening to this place? I’m sorry, but we were not visitors, we were a couple of local Jews. I no longer recognise this place. We took food away with us, and ended up binning it as salad went off (slimy, off smelling Israeli salad) by early evening, having been served it around 2pm lunch! The only edible things was the soup and salt beef sandwich. We had to ask for condiments like mustard, etc several times before it was brought over. I’m still waiting for the horseradish! Stuff was unceremoniously dumped on our table, with ZERO customer service. The waiter either did not understand what was being ordered or just couldn’t be bothered to listen. You are more than welcome to contact me and I’m more than welcome to pop over and speak with you. Utter utter disgrace which costs us over £70. Shame on you and I will report to the Westminster Council as your dishes, plates, etc are absolutely not hygienic or food...
Read moreOh dear oh dear! Be warned this is not classic Reubens Restuarant that used to exist on the opposite side of Baker Street during the 1970's and 1980's - that establishment was like a real New York deli with sensibly priced food that tasted great. This re-opened Reubens continues the expensive over priced average food as before (be prepared to take out a bank loan before you go there!!). I had the beefburger and chips with latke. The beefburger was cold and rubbery with zero taste. The portion of chips consisted of between cold 10-12 chips in a small cup. And as for the latke this was cold as well and was equally tasteless. And all for £20! What a joke! A woeful dining experience but unfortunately this is the only Kosher dining experience in the West End so they have a captive audience of unsuspecting Jewish tourists from Israel and the USA. Oh and to echo other reviews the staff did seem that they couldn't be bothered and just stood around talking to themselves while you waited in front of them to be served - almost like you didn't exist!! There are far better kosher restaurants in Golders Green . This place is not even deserving of one star that's how bad it is. Avoid...
