Came for breakfast, not what we expected. Was hoping for a fry-up but they aren't doing this till the new year. In the lady's words, they wanted to get the place opened up and running (we work nearby and have been waiting for this establishment to open for the better part of 2 years)
Walked in, not knowing the protocol for the establishment, were invited to sit. Lady then asked us "Are you going to order or here just to sit?"
There was no menu as such, however we were presented with a variety of beigals/muffins with a variety of egg/sausage/bacon.
There was also a "make your own breakfast" (as they were not yet running the traditional fry-up yet) which is what we went for. The components of the breakfast were pre-cooked .. including the egg (which did not look appealing). This looked somewhat .. "plasticy" The contents were re-heated and served.
Upon paying, I did express my opinion on the food as I was asked. The lady felt bad and offered a pastry item as compensation. The offer was appreciated, I chose the red velvet croissant. This was cream filled, but the cream tasted of, and had the texture of butter ... it was not nice.
Overall it was not a particularly pleasant experience. The food was sub-par, and while the staff were very nice people, I dont think I'll be returning...
Read moreContemporary take on the classic British workers’ cafe, complete with the original flooring, a timeless seating arrangement, and London pie and mash on the menu (although it should be noted the latter is unavailable during the summer months). Incredible prices for a prime London location near the Garden Museum and Houses of Parliament. We went for the owner’s recommendation of the chicken escalopes, mine in a parm style, the wife’s as part of a Caesar salad. They didn’t disappoint, crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. Plenty of other options on the menu, including a full breakfast, range of sandwiches, and even that escalope in Japanese katsu style. Next time I go, I aim to try the sausages, custom made in the owner’s nearby catering business. Had change from £20 at the end of lunch, which is hard to achieve for one person in London, never mind two. Download the square go app when you arrive for offers - I got a free coffee. Service is swift and...
Read moreThis area has needed some decent food options for a while. I was pleased to learn that a local south Londoner has taken over this place and is going to open a modern cafe serving all the classics. For now, they have soft launched with a sandwich & pastries menu which are all made with local ingredients, handmade onsite etc.
You can tell that the people working there are super passionate about the place, and I really hope it does well. They told me about all of the little things they offer to the community, like discounts for cabbies & nurses from the hospital round the corner. It sounds like they really care & that shows in their food. I had a chicken Parma sandwich (which was absolutely delicious) and the coffee is really good.
I’ll definitely be a regular here. I really...
