My experience with The Ship Rooms began out of necessity as I have an abusive partner and needed somewhere quite far away from North West London in order to feel safe from my “other half”. So, I went on-line and came across this place. As my bank accounts are joint ones with my spouse I needed to be able to pay by cash as use of Mastercard/Visa or other credit cards would have inevitably revealed my whereabouts. So, I called the telephone provided online and after three attempts where the answerphone came on after some lengthy dialling tones I finally spoke to a young woman whose name I cant recall and I explain my situation and could I please pay for my stay up front, at the desk, in cash as soon as I get there? I was told that would be no problem and after a hot and uncomfortable journey southwards with my heavy suitcase I arrived ad The Ship Rooms. “WE DON'T ACCEPT CASH!” was the first utterance from the woman whose name eludes me. I explain that this conversation had been had on the phone “THE LINE WAS NOT VERY CLEAR" which might or might not have been true but she understood and remembered my name and my wish for two nights stay. At this point, I had to explain my need to be away from my partner until the legal situation was resolved and thus could not reveal my whereabouts, and thus no credit card usage (as agreed on phone earlier) I was then quite distraught not knowing what I would do after schlepping across London with the sole aim of finding a safe space. I was finding myself shaking and tearful not knowing what next? After some discussion they deigned to allow me to go to a room and some solution would be found. I unpacked some things and a young man came up and told me that “head office" had okayed the cash payment and that would be £180 for two nights (DESPITE THE ONLINE PRICE FOR EXACT SAME ROOM BEING £70 per night.)
So I promptly handed over £180 without any offer for a receipt being given. The room itself was quite ok, no problems there. Feeling a bit safer in these new surroundings on the second night I requested an extra night as the legal situation with my abusive partner had not yet been resolved. So I asked the female supervisor in the pub for a one night extension but she tells me she will need to speak to her boss so I go out to the shops and on my return I am told that her boss, RACHEL(?) had informed her that the following day the place was fully booked. {THERE SHOULD BECA SCREEN CAPTURE OF THE PROOF OF BOTH £70 ONLINE PRICE AND THE AVSILABILTY OF TOOMS THE FOLLOWING DAY
“HOW STRANGE!” I reply as I had just gone online and THEORETICALLY booked three different rooms for the following day, (IN FACT I HAVE JUST(on the 21st July at 08:24) been able to book SIX rooms, two of which claim “YOU HAVE SELECTED THE LAST OONE" I was desperately trying to find the reason for this ridiculous state of affairs. This female pub supervisor (on her second day on the job, poor thing!) was apparently liaising with the “RACHEL” who insisted that there were no free rooms the following day despite my insistence in having been able to book THREE ROOMS online. To which this “RACHEL" apparently said “ Well if you want to go online and book....” To which, of course I retort....”BUT YOU SAID ALK ROOMS WERE BOOKED!” JUST EHEN I FOUND MYSELF IN NEED OF A SAFE HAVEN FOR A FEW DAYS I AM IMMERSED IN A SITUATION NOT DISSIMILAR TO KAFKA! I have at no time been disrespectful, nor noisy, nor loutish, nor dirty and yet I find myself having to move on with my things in this SCORCHING WEATHER to move to another establishment, hopefully more understanding of my...
Read moreA really nice little pub, they allowed us to leave our luggage in the staff room before we were able to check in. Rooms were spacious and decorated nicely, with a comfy bed. There was only one hanger but we were only staying 2 nights so this didn't bother us, there was a fan in the room, we could open windows, there was a TV with basic channels but it had more things such as YouTube but we didn't make use of this. The shower was blocked when we first attempted to use it but somebody came and rectified this quickly once I'd said so. The shower was small, so I would bear that in mind if you're tall or larger than average, as I am 5ft 9" and slim, but I hit my elbows off the fixtures a few times and opted to turning it off and back on between lathering and rinsing. But I think it would be fine for most people, it didn't bother us much. Under the bed was very dusty too. But overall, considering the location, quality of the room, service from the staff and price, it's a great choice. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to big Ben etc. They also serve nice pizzas downstairs amongst other things and you get 10% off as a...
Read moreWe took a chance and weren’t sure what to expect but we’re so pleasantly surprised by The Ship Rooms. |The staff were so friendly. Tea coffee milk (sweets!) all available. A fan in the room was a god send because the corridor was sweltering. |Our room (5) was spacious with a bath and shower lots of fresh towels.|Free WiFi with strong signal (the internet on the tellys never work in hotels though) |The bed was so comfy and soft! |10% off food and drink downstairs was a nice touch and a proper dart board! |Great location a few minutes walk from the imperial war museum and great if you’re heading to Brixton Academy like we were. A few stops on the bus in the opposite direction and you’re at Waterloo/southbank! We didn’t find the noise much of an issue at all even sleeping with the window open (but maybe growing up in south London gets you used to midnight sirens). |only downsides were the bathroom water could get a little sewage smelling on and off and there are a lot of narrow stairs so would not suit those with mobility issues. ||We would definitely...
