I rarely leave negative reviews for hospitality businesses, having had a part-time pub job since I was 16 but this was perhaps the rudest and most ignorant service I have ever received — which, I should add, was completely unprompted.
The waitress took our order. I ordered an oat milk macchiato, to which she asked whether I would like a single or double. I replied, just a single please. I received my macchiato and it was mediocre coffee, but standard for a London cafe. When I came to pay I was asked for £4.40. I replied that I didn’t think that could be the price for a single oat macchiato. I was told by the waitress that this was the price for a double macchiato. I said I had ordered a single and it was she who took our order. Incredibly, she replied, ‘but you drank it didn’t you’. Yes, I did, but how was I supposed to know it was a double not a single! She grunted, changed the price and said it was now £4.07, petulantly remarking that it was just 30p less (still outrageous for a macchiato, even for London). When you are a student, every penny counts. I and my friends were shocked at her attitude and unpleasantness. I am always courteous to serving staff as I know what a thankless job it can be at times but to be treated in this way was simply ridiculous and unlike anything I’ve experienced. The mistake was hers and instead of politely apologising or saying there had been a mix-up she tried to overcharge me and then justify that overcharging. Really disgusting. Not to mention that an oat milk surcharge was 70p which is pure greed and nothing else. Perhaps oat milk is marginally more expensive but not 70p more. I encourage everyone to avoid this cafe. I hope the...
Read moreAs a local Jewish customer, I really want to support this small business, but Roni's has made it impossible. Despite the excellent challah, the customer service is consistently so poor that my partner and I won't be returning. Roni's employees are some of the rudest I have ever encountered, and my visit today was the final straw. The employee mislabeled her products, providing wrong information. When she tried to overcharge me, I politely pointed out her mistake multiple times until she gave me the right product and charged the correct price. She gave no apology or even recognition of her mistake. No challah is good enough for a customer to keep tolerating mistreatment from the staff.
And some other recurring issues at this establishment: The bakery sometimes runs out of challah on Fridays. This is unacceptable, as Fridays and Saturdays are the two days challah is in highest demand. Prepare your product better. The pastries, especially the mille-feuille, are often stale. This is unacceptable for the prices you charge. Your employees often don't wear masks. While it's not a legal requirement anymore, it's a disgusting practice for a business in the food industry not to do so in a pandemic, and it speaks to your ethics as a company. You should be ashamed. As an individual at high risk for covid, I don't feel safe...
Read moreI dislike giving bad reviews but the waitress working there is definitely going to stop business from coming to this cafe. I walked into the cafe at 7PM - I checked online that they close at 8PM and all I wanted was to have a coffee with my friend, when I walked in - the waitress did not want to serve me and said ‘we are closing soon’ I said the cafe closes at 8PM and its 7PM, there is an hour left - she said ‘we clean at 7:20’ i said I want coffee please, she said okok in such a rude way. Then the waitress came outside after 5minutes saying - ‘what milk’ I said normal, she said ‘ok’
20 minutes later, I went inside the cafe and asked kindly, where is the coffee? She said ‘sorry we closed the machine’ i said excuse me? She did not have the courtesy to even let us know. I asked for her name she refused to give it and kept saying we need to clean the cafe. I think all restaurants and cafes need to clean but they start cleaning after they close not while customers are inside. I will never go back there again and definitely won’t recommend the place at all. I have never seen a waitress behave in such a rude manner. Polite staff members with etiquette bring more business, whereas rude staff members make a customer never come back again. Zia Lucia was definitely more accommodating and...
