It was our 11th anniversary yesterday, and as we both love Thai food (my wife has actually worked in a couple of Thai restaurants) we popped in the Baker street Rosa's Thai, thinking the four and a half stars on Google must mean it's a pretty decent place, right? Well the restaurant was almost empty, apart from two other tables of two, and there were two waitresses. We were placed at a small table for two, and the first thing I noticed was that my arms were sticking to the table. I moved the (already present) side plate, and hiding there was a dried on reddish-brown smear on the table. Having worked in catering in my youth for a good two decades, this should have been my cue to leave, but we were hot, tired, and just happy to find a place that was open.
We ordered, and the drinks and food arrived in very short order. The papaya salad looked lifeless and unappetising, like it had been dumped on the plate from a plastic container, the green curry had a skin on the sauce, the rice and the aubergine dish looked fine, but after we had taken one mouthful of each we had to leave everything as it was all both way too spicy, and bland, lacking in any other flavour, but inedible, burning heat. The chicken skewers seemed fine, but breaking one in half revealed a dangerously pink piece of uncooked chicken. So far so terrible, but worse was to come. One of the waitresses had very audibly told the other that she was going on her break, and after she left, the remaining waitress temporarily vanished, returning occasionally to hand bags of food to Deliveroo drivers. When we finally got to speak to her, we explained (she was perfectly polite) that we couldn't eat our food as it was just too hot, and that the chicken was undercooked, to which she replied "this is authentic Thai food". Yep, just what we needed, to be patronised after being poisoned. We paid £52.31, "optional" service of £5.81 had been included (the waitress took the chicken off the bill) and after the full, uneaten plates were removed we left.
So finally we want to impress upon you that we have never left a review like this on Google, but having read, and been convinced by all the glowing reviews on here, and as we're now both quite ill after our few mouthfuls yesterday (we will spare you the details), we felt it was important to set the record straight. You may well be a great restaurant at the best of times, but at four o'clock this Thursday you were one of the worst we've ever...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Rosa's Thai, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. This gem of a restaurant not only met but exceeded my expectations in every possible way.
First and foremost, the ambiance of Rosa's Thai is warm and inviting. The tasteful décor, blending traditional Thai elements with modern touches, creates an atmosphere that is both comfortable and chic. The soft lighting and soothing background music further enhance the dining experience, making it a perfect spot for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings.
Now, let's talk about the food – the real star of the show. Every dish I sampled was a masterpiece. The menu offers a delightful array of authentic Thai cuisine, and each dish is crafted with the freshest ingredients and utmost care. The Pad Thai was a revelation, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness, tanginess, and spice. The Green Curry was rich and aromatic, with tender pieces of chicken and a medley of vegetables simmered to perfection. The Tom Yum soup, with its bold and complex flavors, was a burst of culinary brilliance.
What truly sets Rosa's Thai apart is the attention to detail and the passion for delivering an exceptional dining experience. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, always ready with recommendations and eager to ensure that every guest feels like a VIP. Their genuine warmth and hospitality add a personal touch that makes you feel right at home.
The drink menu is equally impressive, offering a wide selection of refreshing Thai-inspired cocktails and beverages. I highly recommend trying the Thai Iced Tea – it's the perfect blend of creamy and sweet, a delightful complement to the spicy dishes.
In summary, Rosa's Thai is a standout restaurant that offers an unparalleled Thai dining experience. From the exquisite food to the impeccable service, every aspect of my visit was flawless. If you're a fan of Thai cuisine or simply looking for an exceptional meal, Rosa's Thai is an absolute must-visit. Five stars,...
Read moreI had mixed feelings about dining here. When I first visited, I was really excited because, finally, I could enjoy a proper rice dish. My first meal was the Pad Kra Prow, and it was absolutely perfect. The girls also were friendly. That experience left me thrilled, thinking I’d found a place with great food. Here 5 stars ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
However, things took a turn during my second visit. I was excited again, this time to try their new Chicken Rice Hainan. But my first spoonful of the rice was disappointing. it was hard. At first, I wondered if this was just how Hainanese rice is supposed to be, but I began to worry that if I kept eating it, I might end up with a stomach ache. I have sensitive stomach.
Out of curiosity, I asked one of the waiters (a guy) a very simple question: “Is the Hainanese rice meant to be this hard?” I wasn’t trying to complain. I just wanted to know if this was normal. If it is then it’s okay. Maybe today is just my bad day. To my surprise, he immediately offered to change my dish. 🤦🏻♂️ I told him I came specifically for the Hainanese chicken rice, not another dish. I was hoping they could re-cook the rice or heat it up a bit, or even offer me normal white rice but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
In the end, he saw me did not finish the rice and he took my plate and gave me the bill with a 50% discount straight away without me asking for it. Even i wasn’t ready to leave. well, which I appreciated “i guess” for the discount. But again I still feel like the issue wasn’t properly addressed. It’s unsolved. I just wanted a proper explanation or a solution for the food I ordered. (Maybe he’s the owner because he look like he don’t give af about it but who care i just wanted my food to be served nicely) Frankly, I feel that the situation could’ve been handled better. I hope they can handle this situation better to the other customers in the future and never ever leave your customer unhappy and empty stomach i guess. Really don’t understand. You close one eye as if nothing is happening. Zero...
