Stepping into Royale spicy dosa felt like a warm embrace, the rich aroma of spices immediately transporting me to the vibrant culinary landscape of India. From the moment we were greeted by the ever-so-gracious Radhika, whose smile radiated genuine warmth, we knew we were in for a treat. And what a treat it was!
The star of the evening, without a shadow of a doubt, was the Kovalam Fish Curry. Chef Aravindan has clearly mastered the art of balancing delicate flavors. The fish, flaky and succulent, swam in a creamy, fragrant coconut-based gravy that whispered of coastal breezes and exotic spices. It was, quite simply, the best fish curry I've had the pleasure of tasting in this town – a statement I stand by wholeheartedly.
Not to be outdone, the Mutton Fry was an absolute delight. Each tender piece of mutton was coated in a symphony of spices, delivering a satisfying kick without overpowering the rich flavor of the meat. It was the perfect accompaniment, offering a delightful textural contrast to the smooth curry.
And let's not forget the humble Parotta. Often an afterthought, here it was elevated to an art form. Flaky, layered, and possessing that perfect hint of buttery richness, it was the ideal vehicle for soaking up every last drop of that glorious curry.
Throughout the evening, Radhika's attentive and knowledgeable service only enhanced the experience. Her recommendations were spot on, and her genuine enthusiasm for the food was infectious.
Royale spicy dosa is more than just a place to eat; it's an experience. Chef Aravindan's culinary artistry, combined with Radhika's exceptional hospitality, creates a truly memorable dining occasion. If you're looking for authentic Indian flavors prepared with passion and served with a smile, look no further. The Kovalam Fish Curry alone is worth the visit, but trust me, you'll want to explore the rest of this gem of a restaurant. Highly...
Read moreWalked in on a busy Friday evening. Luckily, we were given a table right away.
The decor is somewhat rather outdated looking and the chairs and booth are not optimised for comfort. As I walked to our table my shoe was met with a sticky spot on the floor, which made me a bit a uncomfortable. Hopefully, that was a one off.
After perusing the menu, which has an extensive list of foods available, we went for: Masala pappadums, Chicken sizzler with paratha and masala dosa.
It didn’t take long for the masala pappadums to arrive and as a lover of pappadums had not previously enjoyed it in this way. The pappadum were topped with a refreshing salad, which had some masala sprinkled all over it. This was a really tasty and enjoyable dish. You get the crunchyness of the pappadum, the refreshingly cool salad and a bit of heat from the masala.
Next was the chicken sizzler, in which some cubed been sizzled (obviously) with some sauces and vegetables. There was a lovely smokey flavour to the chicken along with the marinade used. I think this would have been better if the chicken was a little more tender. But nonetheless, this was still a good dish to try and also has a nice kick to it too.
The accompanying paratha was soft and flakey and a great partner to the chicken.
We waited a considerable time for the masala dosa to arrive. Once it did, we were met with a dosa that was slightly crispy but soft centred too. The potato and lentils inside were cooked well. I think the condiments that accompanied this were fine without being spectacular.
The staff are friendly and prompt with the service and actually recommended the paratha to go with the chicken sizzler.
In light of the above, this is a solid local place to enjoy variety of dishes and cuisines and at attractive prices.
Will hope to visit in the future to try out some...

This was our second time visiting this restaurant, and we decided to try the Indian-Chinese offerings on the menu - BIG BIG mistake. We ordered for a Chicken manchow Soup, Chicken Chilly and Chicken fried Rice for 2 adults. I've had bad to poor manchow soups as a Mumbaikar all my life, however the soup served here takes the cake as it was stuffed with excessive black pepper(exactly!! i don't know why) and relatively no salt, wait a minute, there wasn't a hint of the usual vinegar, soy sauce in the soup and there were 2 tiny chicken pieces for Guest appearance. Moving to the Chicken chilly and fried rice, both felt like a mistaken order for some other table and we even double checked if description on the menu matched what was served, which it clearly wasn't. Either the Chef should simply realize that Indian-Chinese is not his forte and upskill for this cuisine or the restaurant needs to take off Indo-Chinese from their menu, serving sub par level food simply doesn't do good in the long run.
Serving staff are cordial and pleasant, however it would be nice if waiting guests/delivery folks are politely asked not to keep the main door open as it feels awkward to continue eating with a herd of eyes impatiently staring at when you'd finish your plate.
In my previous visit, we had fish and chicken gravy's with the roti/naan combo, which were pleasantly flavorful - guess the restaurant should stick to what it does best.
Certainly, lost me as a...
