Our recent order from Saka Maka Hither Green Indian Restaurant left us with mixed feelings. Most of the dishes were delicious and satisfying.
The highlights of our order included the pav bhaji, vada pav, dabeli, chicken biryani, and veg biryani. These dishes were packed with flavor, and the authentic taste transported us to the streets of India. The vada pav, in particular, stood out as a delectable treat, perfectly capturing its authentic essence.
However, the momos fell short of our expectations. Both the veg momos and chicken momos were slightly hard, possibly due to the delivery time. It's worth noting that this may have been a result of circumstances beyond the restaurant's control, such as the time it took for the food to reach us.
We ordered our meal through Deliveroo, which provided a convenient delivery service. The rest of the dishes arrived in good condition, maintaining their flavors and presentation.
While the momos didn't meet our expectations, we understand that the delivery process can affect the texture of certain dishes. Therefore, we plan to visit Saka Maka Hither Green Indian Restaurant in person next time to fully enjoy the fresh and authentic taste of their cuisine. We believe that experiencing the dishes straight from the kitchen will provide a more accurate representation of their flavors.
Overall, Saka Maka Hither Green Indian Restaurant offers a range of tasty and authentic Indian dishes. For a flavorful Indian meal, it's worth considering, keeping in mind the potential variations in texture due to delivery. We look forward to visiting the restaurant in person to fully savor their fresh and...
Read moreSaka Maka seem to do most of their business as take away, but we ate in. The decor is basic but we got a warm welcome and were greeted with cups of water and laminated menus. The three of us were the only one's eating in, food came quickly and starters and mains came in brisk succession. The food is not your regular standard curry and all the better for it. I get the sense the chefs work hard to produce reasonably priced, distinctively flavoured curry from the soul and clearly aim to please the punters We ordered some starters: Rang Birangi Chips, these are kind of deep fried crispy tubes served in a tin with a little pot of very tangy tamarind diping sauce Samosas Chat, mini samosas which come in a little pan with a handle, covered in sauce and yogurt. An authentic tasting starter Chilli Paneer, a really popular dish with our party, arriving in another little pan with a handle, not overly hot and beautifully tasting indian cheese in a creamy redish sauce And some mains Chutney Prawns, this was somewhat unpromising looking but the medium sized fried prawns were very tasty and we fought over who got the last one Jolly Potatoes, not your regular bombay potatoes, more like chunks of potato parboiled and then fried with indian spices. Unusual not in a sauce but great tasting Daal Bukhara. Thick daal very tasty They gave us a free matter paneer Two bowls of rice were enough along with a plain paratha and a lovely bowl of Pomogrante Raita
This place is definitely the best indian food I've had in south east London since arriving in 2010. I'd give them a go...
Read moreI ordered twice from Saka Maka in the space of a week and would highly highly recommend everyone to try it out if you are looking for tasty authentic Indian food with beautiful flavours- it has very good vegetarian options too.
Food wise: I ordered kadhi chawal for the first order which was so delicious it reminded me of homemade food- just what I was looking for away from home! The second time, I ordered the daal bukhara which was very flavoursome and filling with saag roti and the owner ( I'm sorry I didn't ask your name :( ) was very kind and generous to give me thepla to try too. I would highly recommend both the saag roti and thepla if you are looking for bread options that are lighter than naan but not at all lacking in flavour as they are seasoned fabulously. The saag roti has a lovely green colour which is different to the usual rotis served at other Indian restaurants and eaten at home! Would recommend the pomegranate raita for a sweet refreshing accompaniment to your meal. The portions are generous too and may last until the next day unless you are a foodie like me! The daal definitely is a big portion.
Service: The service was quick ( I ordered for collection) and food was ready in 10 minutes to collect. Everyone who I was greeted by was very friendly and attentive, showing interest and care by having a conversation with me too.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, food wise, service wise, everything wise- and for the thepla!! I really enjoyed the food and can't wait to try other items on the menu :). Wishing you many more...
