Smacks Hamburgers — Restaurant in London

Made an order via Uber and had it delivered.

I ordered a cheeseburger, crisscut fries, ‘spicy smack sauce’ and buffalo sweet sauce wings.

The items were well packaged.

Opening up the cheeseburger and you can immediately see that this is more of your quick mcdonalds style cheeseburger.

The imagery used in the posters and ads give the impression that this is a high quality burger and the description mentions the angus meat is ‘freshly ground today’. When looking at the burger, it doesn’t really seem that way.

Despite the items being well packaged, the burger was a bit squished however.

The crisscut fries given was of a really impressive portion, enough for 2 people I’d say.

The wings were stored in a foil bag, which there were 3 for one portion.

In terms of the taste, the cheeseburger is fine when you consider it is a mcdonalds-style one, but to mention again, the description and imagery gave me a different expectation. The pricing also doesn’t help in this regard since it was around £7(!). These type of burgers are around the £2 mark from its competitors. So, it did feel misleading.

The wings were not tender, the chicken was hard and really had to pull at it, which was not good at all. The flavour was also not quite right and didn’t strike the right balance.

The crisscut fries, however, were fried well and tasty. Some peri salt seemed to be sprinkled over them, which was nice.

The spicy smack sauce tasted a lot like algerinne sauce, if I’m not mistaken.

Overall, I was disappointed with the burger as it gave a different impression of what I was expecting. The pricing is completely off. The wings were not good at all, the crisscut fries were the saving grace however.

I was one of the first customers to walk in this place when it opened, so i know how the food was back then and now. The quality of the food has gone downhill, and when you complain the staff become rude and arrogant saying theres nothing wrong even though you show them photos and videos. Never liked their food i only went in there for their ice creams which was ok at the beginning now it’s so watery and runny and they call it “soft ice cream”.

There has been many times that i did not get my money’s worth they would not fill the container up they rip you off, staff was very rude and argued with me saying he checked before i left that ice cream was ok not runny! (See photos and video uploaded). The next time i went the ice cream was fine just as it should be and i had asked the staff in question to come over and have a look but he refused.

Owner is just as arrogant. When you side by your staff instead of listening to your customers complaint first, soon your business will no longer stand! This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star food is overpriced and tasteless, and staff are extremely rude I’m glad i wont be...

I had the smackdown burger and the dipped smicken burger. The smackdown is the double beef patty burger and it's up there with the best halal offerings out there. The smicken burger was also excellent.

I also had the honey mustard and Parmesan wings. Both packed full of flavour. Very nice.

Great price point. Excellent service.

The negatives. 1. No wet wipes offered and no sink to wash hands after eating saucy wings when dining in. 2. No sauces/dips available. I ordered a substantial take away and upon opening the bag I was surprised to find no sauces to dip the fries in..... sacrilege!!

After I came across a 9 month old "Dining to Jannah' YouTube review of Smacks Hamburger, he didn't get any sauces or dips too......

Oh well, it's probably their differentiation. "Everybody does sauces. We don't do sauces.....it's our thing innit geezer....it's what what we do!"
