Sonargaon - appalling, tasteless food!

How anyone can award this restaurant even 1 star is beyond comprehension. We went to this restaurant for our office Christmas meal. This is a restaurant that anyone who knows what authentic Indian food should taste like should never go to.

I don’t even know where to begin. The vegetarian options on the menu are at the back of the menu as side dishes!! In this day and age how can a restaurant not offer vegetarian dishes as a mains is beyond me. All the accompanying chutneys served with poppadums were very sweet. One of the chutneys which we thought was a carrot chutney was actually coconut with orange food colour! The starters had no flavour in any of the dishes that we ordered and the portions were meagre. For example one of the starters was literally 2 discs of sliced aubergine.

Before the mains were served, we requested for our choices to be made with more flavour and spice. The waiter said he would ask the chef to do this. Lo and behold! When the food arrived it was bland, the potato dish was cold, the tarka dal was literally just boiled dal with no salt or spice. The final straw was the naan bread. It was served burnt. We had to send the potato dish back for it to be warmed up and ask for more naans which were not burnt.

We spoke to the Manager about the quality and taste of the food and he gave us some bizarre explanation that they 'catered for the area'. The Manager actually told us when we were leaving that next time he would ask the chef to make the food more flavoured for us. Why would anyone in their right mind pay good money for a repeat experience and for food that is tasteless! ...

First of all the good parts.

Service - they went over and above and delivered to me although outside of the area they cover.

Food arrived hot and very quickly and was absolutely delicious. One of the best curries we have had in a long while.

Unfortunately I didn't check the food with the driver and the order was wrong. After eventually getting through (they are clearly popular and constantly engaged!) they eventually offered to replace which did come very quickly alongside an apology although by this point it was too late to enjoy the meal with my family as we had planned.

Overall I would go back but I would suggest double checking the food when it's delivered. Also was only cash on delivery which meant I had to go out anyway so in hindsight would have been better to go and...

This restaurant is somewhat local to us but we've managed to not dine in here so far...until today!

It is clean and nicely set up with a welcoming ambience to the place. The staff were ever so warm and polite from the very start right through our meal.

We had the assorted indian hors d'oeuvre, a standard for us, which went down a treat unsurprisingly! The chicken Chettinad was tasty and my daughter finished off her buttered chicken dish without a complaint. My wife enjoyed her Agni Korai too.

It was relatively busy and from the pleasant chats the staff were having with the customers, it was obvious that the restaurant has its loyal clientele. Overall, a pleasant experience and they might just have added one more convert because...
