I went here over the weekend, with a good friend - who favours the foods of the Levant - who has himself been coming to this Lebanese restaurant, on the well-trodden Harrow Road of NW central London, for years.
And indeed, it was very tasty! And, probably almost half the £ price of its famed, yet more centrally located competitors on the Edgware Road (leading to "speakers corner" in Hyde Park).
Notwithstanding a slight hiccup from a young waiter (who, perhaps, might have taken our hint to write down our order, particularly since he may have still been learning the local tongue..!), t'was verily, a wonderful feast.
And big! We ordered a starter for 2 and 1 main each. My mixed chicken & lamb grill with rice was far too much, particularly after the huge meze entré (which included good quality falafel, really good hummus and simply yummy aubergine baba ganoush...).
After one bite of the lamb, I couldn't stop, but I literally had no room for the chicken. (I felt like that guy who does the eating challenges on that US TV show!) So, knowing that I was going to write this review (& and because I'm an eco nut, and car-boot-sale luvin' cheapskate addict!), I asked for a doggy bag and was duly provided with a sensible plastic container (which fitted-in slightly better with my eco principles than some that other restaurants dish out). And I ate the rest of it at home, that same evening.
I always think that if you're eating food cold, that was originally intended to be served hot or warm, and it's still good, even when cold, then that, in itself, is one sign of great nosh. (As is eating something the very same day you started it, despite your plans to eat it for lunch during work the next day!)
I haven't yet mentioned the fresh mint lemonade, which I should; if you like "tart", this rather unique drink (or at least, I have never been offered something quite like that in London!) is worth a try. It's one of those "Marmite options"; you'll love it or hate it!
Need I say more? Perhaps except that I should hasten to add that I did not actually pay the bill (& didn't ask!), as it was a treat from my good friend (thanks, Laurence!); but glancing at the £ prices myself, I know that I could recommend this place, highly, to both those with pockets short, and deep alike. (Another reviewer has complained that his favourite dish, here, has gone up in price by £2 in the last 3 years; thst seems like an utterly ridiculous, unreasonable and vexatious complaint to me!)
The toilets are also very clean, and l, I have to say, more "stylish" than I expected for this kinda joint. And, the waitress has a very nice smile, even if one of her young stallion colleagues seemed a little befuddled with what he was doing there.
Yes, go here, if you're in the area, or passing through. If you like this sort of food you certainly won't regret it.
By all accounts, it's...
Read moreI went there with my friend to order some Lebanese food and went out to be the terrible decision i have ever made!! The shawerma was really terrible and it smells really bad like 100% its not fresh and from yesterday or the day before!! The cheese mankoushe was really bad either! They didn’t put the normal cheese which lebanese people uses for mankoushe! They used the cheapest cheese ever and some picon cheese with it!! Who put picon cheese with a cheese mankoushe!! This big bread with olives and cheese was the nastiest one with no offend. The cheese was really bad taste and it was colddddd!! And we asked the waiter 2 times to heat it up for us and after we tased we found out that the cheese is really bad!! My recommendation is were i know that you will take it into consideration but i wish so! Is to use everything (fresh) so it will has that good taste and (good smell) not stinky. Use the original lebanese cheese for mankoushe don’t fake it up on people who don’t know about lebanese food! This is insult for lebanese people in general! And the most important thing ( fix the problem with the staff and the owner ) as it showed that they don’t really love their job (fix it...
Read moreVery disappointed with my order today. My girlfriend and I have been ordering from this place for over 4 years and the service that I have just recieved was shameful and disgusting.
Placed my usual order on Saturday 24th July at 19:08 which arrived at 19:34. The food arrived ice cold and mostly uncooked, the portion sizes were completely slacking and the breads that I paid for were also missing.
My girlfriend called the restaurant at 19:38 to explain the situation and how saddened we were as regular customers. The phone was picked up by a sloothy man who responded with "Say wallah?" and "It's just bread darling!" whilst mocking the situation. He then had the audacity to blame the Uber driver for taking time (even though the driver arrived on time and delivered earlier than the expected time). The restaurant took no responsibility for anything and I'm more sickened by the way they spoke to regular customers.
Will no longer be ordering from there again and would definitely advise for everyone to spend their money elsewhere. There are plenty of Lebanese restaurants in the area, this one has...
