At Thai Square Trafalgar Square, nestled in the heart of the bustling capital, the promise of authentic Thai flavours in a prime location drew me in. Unfortunately, the reality didn't quite match up to expectations.
Let's start with the food, which can only be described as average. Thai cuisine is renowned for its vibrant flavours and intricate balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy elements. However, the dishes presented to us were notably lacklustre. The Pad Thai lacked the essential tamarind punch, and the green curry missed that fragrant basil freshness, essential to lift the rich coconut base. Both dishes could have benefitted from a more generous use of herbs and spices that are the backbone of Thai cuisine.
Moving on to the service, it was disappointing. From the moment we stepped in, the welcome was less than warm, setting a rather underwhelming tone for the evening. It took a considerable amount of time to catch the attention of the staff for ordering. When the food arrived, it was with minimal interaction, lacking the customary Thai hospitality, which is all about warmth and friendliness.
A significant damper on the evening was the atmosphere, disrupted not by the restaurant's own ambience but by an external factor — a child at the next table watching YouTube videos at a high volume. Normally, one would expect restaurant management to step in and ensure that all guests enjoy their experience without such disturbances. However, when approached, the manager refused to intervene, which was both surprising and disappointing. This lack of consideration for the comfort of other diners further marred our experience.
Overall, Thai Square Trafalgar Square falls short of what one might expect from such a well-positioned eatery. Despite the restaurant's potential to capitalise on its location with robust Thai flavours and congenial service, it struggles with mediocrity in its culinary offerings and a disregard for customer service. For those seeking the true taste of Thailand and a dining experience to match, there are certainly better venues in London...
Read moreMy husband sought out this restuarant thinking it was one of those hidden gems. We arrived early and waited to be seated which was fine. Got to our tables and was ignored for about 15mins, it wasnt even that busy. We asked for all our starters and mains to arrive together. He chose this place booked in advance and noted 2 birthday celebrations, they weren't even acknowledged. I ordered a spicy seafood dish which came out sweet. I asked the waitress that its meant to be spicy and it wasnt so she took it back to change. It then arrived sometime later. I took one bite and choked. It was extremely spicy. I picked it apart and found 12 chillies. How insulting, I showed the server and she said do you want something else. You can't even get the dish right so i said no thank you. Another lady came and offered for me to pick another dish to which I refused as not only couldn't you make it slightly spicy you insulted and whacked on so many that I wish I had a photo to prove this. I declined to order anything else. Everyone in my party continued with their meals but we werent happy at all. The bill came with the items removed but not even an ounce of apology. We still paid over £70 for 2 mains, started and side. The portions which weren't even worth the price tag. I understand the location being central and in London but the attitude of staff and the massive blip ruined the meal. We ended up going to borough market and I wish we'd just visited there instead. Save your pennies. You dont just pay for food you pay for the experience and I honestly couldn't trust the staff or chef to make me another suitable dish when he insulted me by serving half the dish containing chillies. No doubt you'd reply with well take on your feedback, wish we all just didn't come here in the first place. Should have offered something atleast for goodwill or a discount off the remainder of the bill as...
Read moreI am very very very disappointed and absolutely shocked at the way I was treated at this restaurant. I have never ever ever in my life been made to feel the way I felt today. I was made to feel like a criminal and was help literally captive in this restaurant. My bag was stolen and when we addressed the staff they were very unconcerned and didn’t care and not at all sympathetic about the situation. When a friend suggested that they should waiver the bill for the inconvenience of having my bag stolen in well established restaurant we would expect the customer service to be on point. But it was far from. This had nothing to do with the bill but when that suggestion came around they call the police and said that we would have to wait for the police to arrive and confirm in the cctv that my bag had been stolen. As they could not. We were made to wait over 2 hours for the police to arrive and when the police did arrive staff mentioned the fact that they had already looked at the footage and saw nothing. After having told us that they could not look into the cctv. Not only did they lie but made us wait over 2 hours making us feel as if we were criminals. They kept insisting that we pay the bill right up until the very end until I said that because of principal I will not pay a single penny to this company. Throughout the entire ordeal the staff were rude especially a waiter called chai. He was incredibly rude and ver disrespectful to the entire situation. I left the restaurant in tears after having mine and friend friends bags checked and our jackets had to be checked and taken off. The situation was not resolved and had ended with me leaving my details for a dispute to be open between me and the restaurant!!! Please as one of the bouncer suggested when u arrive at this restaurant put ur bag on the floor and secure the strap under the leg of a chair just to be safe!!...
