Ghost bus tour, a short story:
Having previously booked a 9pm tour on the frightening, black-tinted and blood-maculated website, I was touring London, minding my own business. When suddenly, my phone starting ringing loudy. I picked up, but nobody was on the line! Spooky, I thought.
Feeling slightly uneasy, I arrive at the meeting point shortly before 9. Nobody's there. I glance around with a growing sense of fright. Is this a trap? Suddenly, a tall, meager man sporting a black attire jumps at me from the shadows.
"The 9pm tour is cancelled, sir." He laughs ominously. "Please come back for another tour". On those mysterious and ghastly words, the man disappears again in obscurity. "Not to worry!" I thought. "There must be a rational explanation behind that."
Fast forward to the following evening. I stand again at the still-empty meeting spot, dreading what I might witness -- and terrified about the fate of my 25£. I give a start as a pidgeon flies over me. Squinting into the dark, I seem to make out a vague, faded outline. "The bus is invisible!" Scared to death by the appearance (or the lack thereof), I scamper away as fast as I can.
Back in the comfort of my hotel room, I finally come back to my senses. I ain't 'fraid of no ghost! Let's call Ghostbusters! (Yes kids, Ghost Bus Tours!!)
One more night passes, and here I am again. I came well prepared this time, at 7.30pm. The meeting spot is full with other ghost chasers, and it quickly appears that the dreadful ghost does not stand a chance. We drive it away and the true Ghost Bus suddenly appears, its driver waving at us in a friendly manner. Safe and sound!
The morale of the story: The tour was great, the actor was funny and talented. But the company may cancel on you with little support, so think twice before booking, and prefer more frequented schedules (7.30 likely the best), especially if you cannot come back...
Read moreIf you think you know London, or if an open-top bus tour isn’t your cup of tea, it may be time to think again. At a bus stop on Northumberland Avenue you will spot a black 1960s Routemaster amongst the normal red buses that line the street. This particular bus is anything but normal.
The Necrobus will take you on a journey with a twist. You can expect to drive around Central London’s major sights, visiting historic locations of important events, but you’ll uncover the darker, more morbid side of London’s past.
Your live guide will keep you more than entertained the entire trip, sharing facts about beheadings, hangings, public executions, and murders that went unsolved. Famous and unmarked burial sites across the city, superstitions, and the most haunted buildings will all be revealed.
Extra guests may jump on board, and your unconventional tour guide may do some hopping off. You’ll be getting involved in the experience, making the Necrobus tour an attraction in itself.
Which hotel hates the number 13? Which pub has a basement of prison cells? And which ticket hall was created after moving crypts and tombs? There’s only one way to find out – on board the Ghost Bus Tour.
However jumpy and uncomfortable you may feel on this bus, you’ll be equally entertained by the comedy and theatrics. It can get loud at times, and there is a short moment of flashing lights. The trip isn’t recommended for very young children, but I would say its family friendly for...
