Absolutely appalling experience tonight at this pub. I have lived in the area for years and visited this pub before and never received the treatment that I experienced tonight. Mainly due to the seriously questionable “security”. My partner and I were unfairly removed from the premises purely based on the fact that I walked down the wrong flight of stairs in search of the bathroom. I even approached him immediately after immediately coming up from the stairs and asked him where the women’s bathroom was, after I only saw a gentlemen’s sign on the door downstairs. He then, very condescendingly, asked if I didn’t know how to read, since there was a gentlemen’s sign above the stairs which I said I didn’t see until I was down the stairs. He then subjected my partner to a FULL search which he claimed was just ‘due process’. After this interaction, I then went up to our friend to inform him of the situation, which then prompted the security guard to come BACK up to me and ask me why I was not in the bathroom after he directed me. I responded that “I will go, I am just telling my friend what just happened”. Even upon finding nothing in his full searches, he then decided to kick both of us out and changed his story, attributing it to the fact that I was ‘too drunk’. Which is interesting since upon ENTRY he asked if I had had anything to drink and I told him I had two pints previously at another pub and he allowed me entry. When I asked the bar who I could speak to about this incident, he came and FORCIBLY inserted himself into the conversation between myself and the manager to defend himself, which to me, just proves that he knew he was in the wrong and was trying to save face in front of his management. The manager even admitted that it was an unfortunate mistake but lacked the backbone to apologise or atone for it. APPALLING and I regret every pound I...
Read moreAbsolutely woeful customer experience, from beginning to end. That one star is generous.
Thought we'd give the Alexandra a try as they had advertised England-PNG in the RL World Cup Quarter Final on Fanzo (what I believe was formerly Match Pint).
As it turned out, they could barely bring themselves to pop it on the screen by the door that no one was watching, accompanied with a charming snarl from the supervisor woman (more on her later). Half an hour into the game she comes over and turns it over to a Union game that was on their numerous other screens. Snarky comments in tandem with it, of course.
I can absolutely accept that there's more demand for RU in this part of the world (even though Kate Middleton picked Wigan!) and also that a late decision may have been made about showing the RL, but the supervisor was foul.
Her attitude stank, her tone and the way she spoke to us was disgraceful. There's little wonder the staff under her supervision looked like they didn't want to be there. It was an absolute clinic of how not to do customer service.
I wouldn't even go back in there if I was caught in the middle of an apocalypse on...
Read moreI came in on Sunday with a few friends to watch the Liverpool and Chelsea match. We were told to head upstairs for live commentary on two massive projector screens. We were intrigued about the upstairs and it did not disappoint as we were able to see all of the action in a busy and characteristically traditional London looking bar area.
We were also happy to pay just over £4.50 for a pint of Guinness in London!! I’m not sure if it was the price, or the smoothness of the pint, but they tasted amazing. My friend also ordered an anchovy pizza and stated that he liked it a lot - looked fresh and was piping hot.
After the football finished, we headed downstairs to the main bar and listened to some live music whilst enjoying a “few” more Guinness’, served by the great and friendly staff. Matt and Charli were particularly helpful!
If only every Sunday was as eventful and enjoyable as this one. We shall be...
