šĀ Dalston Kingsland šŗĀ Ā£5.50 Amstel ā¤ļø One of the best pubs in London. . I have visited The Army & Navy a few times over the years, usually on my way to see The Arsenal. My last visit was on St Patrickās Day back in March this year. Getting here is easy, Dalston Kingsland station is a just five minute walk away. . This pub was built in the 1930ās by AE Sewell who was Truman Breweries principal architect. The pub retains many original features, is Grade II listed and is designed in a Neo Georgian style. . The decor oozes oldschool charm and the environment is welcoming and comfortable. There is a proper pub carpet, a good size bar, velour banquette bench seating, a dart board and for good measure, throw in a few TVās showing live sport. One of the best features of this pub is the massive beer garden. There are loads of covered booths, TVās showing live sport and also a new addition is the outdoor bar. . The beer selection is straight up reasonably priced keg options, there are a few craft beers available and the Guinness is well celebrated. The pub has recently teamed up with pizza gurus @yardsalepizza , so now you can have pizza delivered to the pub. . The atmosphere here is always warm and friendly, the pub attracts a broad crowd from all walks of life rather than just one demographic. This is down to Jimmy the Guvānor who has been at the helm for the past 26 years and looks after his punters one and all. Jimmy gave me a tour of the pub and was telling me about how much work had gone in to the beer garden, which looks great. . The Army & Navy is one of my favourite pubs in London as it ticks so many boxes. There is the architectural heritage, old school decor, reasonably priced beer, a superb beer garden, welcoming atmosphere and the nicest Guvānor youāll ever meet. If youāve not visited yet and want to experience how a pub should be, then put The Army & Navy at the top of your must visit pub list. . ā¹ļø Info correct on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI held my dads 60th birthday party in the outside area at The Army and Navy in November. The area is spacious, clean and bright and has great heaters, seating and huge TVs showing the sports. The drinks are very reasonably priced, the outdoor bar is modern, fully functional and stocks wines, spirits and beers from Heineken to Camden Hells. This pub is a Grade II listed public house, is cosy inside and out, has a lovely atmosphere for all ages and is loved by locals. The staff and patrons are warm and welcoming and the establishment is child and dog friendly. From my initial enquiry, during the party and after, landlord Jimmy was communicative, friendly and helpful, as were all of his staff. Jimmy helped me decorate the area for the party and also cleaned up the venue afterwards. We had hired a food van for the occasion and Jimmy made space and accommodated this request. My dad had the best birthday he has ever had and I couldnāt recommend this venue more, for hire, regular pub events like karaoke or just for a drink any time of the week! This type of old school pub is now hard to find in London and I am so glad this one is still there. Thanks Jimmy and all the team at The...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIncredibly rude man working behind the bar. Came for a friends birthday where there were around 15 of us sitting outside, buying many drinks. I went to the bar and asked if they charged for soda water which he scoffed at and said yes. I asked for a glass of tap water instead and he said āyou canāt order water and expect to be allowed to sit in this pubā. All I wanted was a glass of water in between beers? He slammed it down on the bar and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The female staff were alright and friendly.
*response: I went inside to the loo and went to the bar after that as was already inside. Asked for a soda, didnāt want to be charged Ā£1.50 for it so asked for tap water. After then going outside again, I saw the watering points and continued to help myself from them and also used the bar outside with nice staff as the evening went on. I just thought the tone was...
