One of the other reviews really struck a cord with me, and although my review isn't quite as scathing, there are a lot of similarities. I lived locally in around 2008-2012 and became a regular. Of all the many Turkish restaurants in the area, this was my favourite. I would liken the atmosphere before the refurb to that of a small, intimate, almost a Turkish 'Trattoria'. It was warm, friendly, cosy, intimate, and the food and service were amazing. Portions were large, and I particularly remember their bread being the best - thick and warm and infused with meat juices from the cooking kebabs. After moving to South London, I hadn't visited for many years, but found myself in the area recently and decided to go back. The place has changed beyond recognition. Its had an extensive refurbishment and renovation, presumably to appeal to the area's rapidly gentrifying clientele. It's lost all of its charm and just isn't inviting anymore. The service was great, really friendly and attentive, but the food was a bit dissapointing. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good either. Small, limited menu, and the flavour and portion size was sadly lacking. I fondly remember sharing a large mixed kebab with a bit of everything, all juicy, tender and delicious but this is no longer available. It feels like a real local gem has been lost and I wouldn't go...
Read moreI am highly disappointed with the customer service in this restaurant. I have never seen such a disaster. I felt very sick after I ate and I called them to just ask if they have used different meat because we have ordered from there before and it was completely fine. So I wanted to ask just so I know what meat isn't good for ME. Nothing to do with them. As soon as I asked this question I was attacked through the phone and was told to visit the restaurant if I had a problem therefore, I went to the restaurant and asked to speak to the person who said this to me. The guy came outside and DID NOT give me a chance to explain the misunderstanding. He belittled me because I'm a female in Turkish and also mentioned he doesn't like Turkish people because of their complaints. Again, I tried to explain my problem isn't with the restaurant but they still they attacked me and told me I was being dramatic. He also said "go to the hospital and come back with a report" and "I don't have to explain myself to you". I felt highly disrespected and did not deserve that treatment whatsoever. The restaurant owner has no self respect and does not respect his customers either. After this happened, I found out 3 of my clients have been severely ill after eating food from here and they also got disrespected in the same manner. Please be...
Read moreSuperb meal at Cirrik 19. This has to be the best Turkish restaurant I have been to. We were very well-looked after by Juma, the owner, who was very attentive and courteous. This is a family-run restaurant and you can see they really care about their guests and food. The cold mezze starters were absolutely delicious - I have never tasted such fresh and moreish dips, even in Turkey. It turns out they are homemade by Juma's mother. Together with the fresh flat bread doused in smoky paprika, they went down a treat. The meat kebabs (adana and cop sis) were similarly excellent - tender, high-quality, delicately spiced lamb grilled to perfection and served with very generous complimentary accompaniments, including chargrilled onions in pomegranate sauce, which I love and are normally charged extra elsewhere. I later found out that Juma's father is a butcher and hand-selects all the meat himself, which explains why these kebabs were a cut above anything I have tasted on Green lanes or in Dalston. Prices very reasonable, even more so given the quality of the food and produce. Will definitely be...
