We visited the place for dinner, especially for their pie taster menu. This was unfortunately unavailable because one of the pies was missing. I suggested that we still get the experience by getting one of the other pies twice. The staff originally said yes to the suggestion and then refused. We ended up ordering the 2 mini pies available and a portion of fish and chips. The 3 mushroom pie was sub-par while the steak one was average. The fish and chips was alright, but certainly not worth the price (£17!!!). It is a very beautiful place and I would fully recommend it for a drink, but not food. The staff was not helpful and quite dismissive.

Though it was getting full, the staff managed to find space for 5 of us. What attracted us was the tag, "Pie and Ale" and wanted to try some pies. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal selection, though there were quite a few unavailable items on the Sunday that we visited. The haggis scotch egg with tomato chutney was moist and flavourful. We also enjoyed the bacon and brie toasted sandwich, spiced duck pie with cauliflower cheese, roast beef with yorkshire pudding and the cornish pastry. The staff were efficient dealing with the Sunday crowd.

Place was practically empty. We ordered a steak and ale pie and a 3 bird roast pie and a pint and Half of real ales. The steak and ale pie was very salty, the veg miserable looking and undercooked . However the worst was the 3 bird roast when I cut in there was a puddle of gravy, carrots and a few bits if stringy meat covering the base if the pie, but not real meat. I went up to the bar and asked the bar man to look at it. He asked if it was like that from the start!! Then apogised and said he would replace it.My guest had finished eating what he could of his meal before mine eventually arrived. This time there was a few chunks of what looked like chicken, but not an adequate amount to justify the price or to qualify as a meat pie. We should have stuck with the salmon fillet . The beer sadly was also flat and tasteless, would never have said it was prize winning, we didn't order anymore. Won't be going there again, it was also pretty expensive for what they are offering. The staff were nice. Shame, spoiled a special day out! Nt...

Awful customer service. Wanted 2 chairs back from our party of 7 for a booking that wasn't for 3 hours on a quiet Wednesday afternoon when we were pretty much the only people in the pub.

Edit: in response to the below, the chairs we were sitting on were not from a reserved table. Our entire party pointed out you could have moved chairs from anywhere else in the pub if they were needed (they weren't, the pub was empty) - you could even have made a space for us somewhere else and asked us to move if we were placed inconveniently, but you didn't - we had to suggest that, then decided it wasn't worth it since you'd been rude in the first place. The table we were originally sitting on was the one reserved for 5pm (it was 2pm), we already moved (without being asked) so that the table would be clear. We were made to feel unwelcome and given the amount of money we would have spent, we decided to go to...
