City of London Cigars - Where do I start? This cigar merchant and sampling lounge is by far the best I’ve been to, so to explain things better, I will break down the reasons why this is the case.

Staff: The staff are some of the most polite, well mannered and respectable individuals I have come across. They always do their best to provide a good service so you can enjoy your experience. Unlike other merchants I’ve been to, they don’t immediately try to upsell you or push you towards Cuban cigars, they instead stand back and allow you to make a choice that is yours, and are happy to recommend items when you’re a bit lost, making it excellent for both those who are familiar and new to cigars. They always smile and they’re happy to be there. I was fortunate enough to be served by Mohid, who was an excellent host that treated me more like a friend than a customer.

Premises: The building itself is fantastic, with a clear well kept store and excellent humidor with great selection. Moving downstairs, you have a cosy sampling lounge which has a somewhat-Edwardian design to it with a conveniently located bar and toilet. For those looking to do business here, they also have a small conference room that can be rented out, seating 6 people.

Products: Simply an excellent choice of cigars, with both Cubans and New World sticks, both long and short smokes across a very affordable price range (especially for the UK market). They also offer a variety of pipe tobaccos and pipes, as well as a selection of accessories. Their menu consists of affordable drinks and light snacks, making it feel relaxed and casual. You certainly don’t need to fear about your wallet being empty afterwards (plus there are no hidden fees!).

Location: Situated next to Liverpool Street Station, this cigar merchant is the perfect place for those located all around London. It is a 3-5-minute walk from transport links, of which consist of National Rail (Liverpool Street), London Underground (Central Line and Circle Line), and a very populated Taxi Rank. The area is fairly pedestrianised so it’s easy to walk around.

Customers: This merchant attracts a range of polite customers, all from a range of backgrounds. It’s hard to feel out of place here.

The cigar selection is impressive, catering to both seasoned aficionados and newcomers alike. They offer a wide range of premium brands from around the world, (yes they have Cubans) and the knowledgeable staff is more than happy to assist in finding the perfect cigar to suit your taste. I appreciated how they took the time to explain the different options and made thoughtful recommendations.

If you’re looking for a strong drink, please bring your own. Currently, they’re only serving non-alcoholic beverages but will hopefully soon have the ability to serve more pleasant cocktails.
